Nobody remembers Low and Lollipop? Are you serious?
And Hollaback Girl was absolutely massive. Download sales were much lower in 2005, so obviously it's sold less than Rolling in the Deep.
Hollaback Girl broke download records (was the first song to sell a million), broke radio airplay records (most radio plays in one week). It was a crossover hit, being big on pop, rhytmic and urban (same goes for Low and Lollipop).
Hollaback Girl also had tons of impact. It was a controversial song, since lots of people hated it due to its lack of melody, excessive swearing. And just when people think the song couldn't get any more awful, she decides to spell out "B-A-N-A-N-A-S". Some people were saying it was the most annoying song of all time, which makes its success even more impressive imo.
There was also the fact that nobody knew what the song was about. Everybody was like "What's a hollaback girl?". Similar to Like a G6 from a couple of year ago, where the big question everybody was asking for months was "What's a G6?" The song really spun out of control.
Rolling in the Deep was big, but it wasn't really in the media much. It was just played on the radio a lot and had massive sales (if you get what I mean).
