I wasn't into pop music as I am now until I listened to Rated R.

I used to only listen to Classic Rock + Britney/Avril. Then around High School I started opening up to different types of Music except Rap and Pop. Basically I started listening to Rock and Alternative. And then Gaga came out and I loved her and so I gave Katy a chance and both became my favs. Now I always give everyone a chance (Even Bruno Mars whom I hate) so I like almost everyone now. But like 2 years ago I would have never had even given 1D a chance because they were a boyband but this year I did and I LOVE them. I think my taste just opened up when I gave everything a chance. I never judge music until I listen to it.

Definantly, I only listened to pop music through to 2007 (13 years old) then stopped having grudges on a lot of good pop music and from then on my pop music taste expanded, but I still only listened to what was on the charts. In 2009 I then was listening to everything that was in the charts whether it was pop or not. Then I started to listen to some more alternative music that wasn't in the charts in 2011. Then in 2012, when I joined ATRL, I now disregard a lot of the chart music I was listening to, stopped listening to the radio and started to appriciate eery single music genre and also I was listening to 'old' music - which was a new thing for me. I'm glad I came across ATRL, so glad, but it has made buying music very difficult/expensive because I wan't to buy so much now because my taste is so broad.

I think my taste has changed quite a lot over the past two years. I used to listen to pop music only, but now I'm drifting away from pop (I still listen to it though) and moving into Electronica / Rock / Alternative music mostly.

Years ago, it was very pop & R&B; I guess you could put that down to the UK music scene and endless hours of watching video channels. When I look back on my physical collection, I bought so many singles and compilations. Stuff ranged from Britney to Frankee ( ) to more disco and hip-hop stuff. My mum was an avid listener like me, so I grew up with the greats like Whitney, but also a lot of disco sounds.
You could probably say I followed the music trends up until 2011 (2005-7 was all R&B, etc). However, last year it was very different. When I look back on 2010, pop music was SUCH a headbake. I was known to the people around me as someone who had the songs before they came out, but it was all pop. A year later, I realised how 2D pop music was/had become so I started looking for something new. In May, I found the Weeknd - that changed everything. I was suddenly open to a whole different genre or alternative stuff, but music that still had roots in genres I loved (R&B, Hip Hop). Next came Frank Ocean weeks after; I remember the summer afternoon I played NU for the first time and it was just perfect. Fall came and I looked to my friends for more gritty stuff in rap/alternative which I liked, yet it felt weird as I was always being asked for music, music I now didn't like. Oh, and AZEALIA opened me up to **** loads too.
2012 has been way more open for me. I still listen to pop records when they come out, I mean ATRL makes it hard to escape that. But, I listen to pop in moderation now simply because it becomes bland after so many listens. My music taste now is flawless and I wouldn't change a thing. Sorry for the essay, lol.

2000 - 2003/4 - Britney, Madonna, Xtina, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys (I was so young back then so I listened to whatever MTV played. My favourite song was "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion and I used to sing it in front of my parents )
2005 - 2007 - Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, Jimmy Eat World, Snow Patrol, Gavin DeGraw, Audioslave, Jack's Mannequin, Feeder, The Veils. I've gotta say, One Tree Hill really helped me discover this awesome music thanks to its amazing soundtracks. I also listened to 50 Cent, The Game, Ashanti, Snoop Dogg
2008 - 2009 - Tiesto, David Guetta, Benny Benassi, Armin Van Buuren, deadmau5 + some pop.
2010 - now - I've become so mainstream Too much pop tbh. I've also become a huge fan of Drake, Kanye, Coldplay, Florence, Emeli Sande, Alex Clare & The Script. That being said, I do feel like I need to experiment a bit more with my music taste. No idea where to begin though I've been listening to Azealia, Frank & Janet lately but their music doesn't really do it for me.

It's been the same with me. Hip-Hop is usually first, followed closely by pop, and then finishing off with some Rock and R&B. I also have touches of techno and a little bit of reggae.

Not really, it's the same. The only thing that's changed is the artist I listen to. I like a lot of music, I wouldn't consider myself picky. When I was younger I would listen to Cher & Madonna. And during 07 I was into Nelly Furtado and Britney. And now it's Adele, Florence, and Christina. But I wont be changing, I love all 3 ladies very much. But I will add more artist to my list if I like them.

When I was in 8-9th grade, I was all about the diva, i.e. I used to listen to Mariah Carey (and still am), Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera and every singers with wide vocal range.
But then the year I got into high school, I found Lady Gaga and now that's pretty much it. I love music generally, especially since Gaga's always mentioned her idols and I got curious, so I listened to what she liked like Madonna (?), Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie etc. And now practically my taste of music has changed sooooo much better.

Yes. I begun with R&B/Soul and a lil bit of pop, then I learned to enjoy nu soul and hip-hop.
The sequence continued with: j-pop, europop, garage, dance/house, k-pop and pop/rock.
It's definitely an interesting experience when you look at the past and understand how everything was prejudicially "labeled" by yourself.

At first I never cared about music since the only music I listened to was on the radio. I mean I liked pop then, but only until Womanizer came out that I really took an interest
Then I was obsessed with Britney until Gaga came out, then I was obsessed with both really until Kesha came out. After that, it felt disgusting listening to only pop music so I ventured out into ALL the different sub-genres of pop and other genres. Only here after meeting a certain ATRL member that I expanded even further to R&B, then Alternative, then Alternative rock, electronica, experimental, ethereal wave, trip hop, jazz, folk, alternative dance, avant-garde, industrial, rave, baroque pop, anarcho-punk.
I love it
