at Britney Spears being more talented than Michael Jackson. How comical.
Even Britney herself would laugh at that.
Michael's been on stage since 1968. Before all of us were even in nutsacks let alone in utero.
Michael was selling out arenas and had the world in the palm of his hand when little Brit Brit, Justin, Beyonce were taking their first baby steps. You dont have to like him or his music, but lets not get delusional.
I don't care who's mad about this, I don't care who thinks I'm delusional or insane. But what makes him so great. I get that he has amazing record sales, a strong legacy and very memorable songs. But I understand he's the King Of Pop, he's a very original man but I don't understand what makes him so amazing. His vocals and dance skills are not as amazing as people make them out to be IMO. So, educate me?
I doubt the people denying Michael's musical talent and ingenuity on this thread have heard his songs other than Billie Jean, Beat It and Thriller.
Michael Jackson was a musical genius. He wrote, composed, and produced his own songs. He was not just a manufactured popstar like the ones that y'all are stanning for. His music was ahead of its time. His song lyrics were very deep and conveys messages about religion, politics, and social issues, and not just some generic mess like sex and partying like your faves' songs. The melodies of his songs are very catchy, original and innovative. You should all listen closely to even one of his albums in full and maybe you'll stop wondering what makes him great/amazing.

Try and sing or dance like him. And then you see. There was a reason all those motown legends stanned for him when he was 10. Also unlike most vocalists he connected emotionally with songs lyrically. The man was a born entertainer.
One of his greatest vocal abilities is emotion in his voice. N you can look at performance from all the way back when he was a child to see why he his often hailed as the greatest performer of all time

I was going to post in SYG some time ago (don't remember what prompted it) about how some people on here seem to resent his legendary status. On a site where the words legendary and iconic are constantly abused, I suppose some people don't like to be confronted with real examples of those terms. Which of course sounds ridiculous, but some members seem to conflate their faves' accomplishments with their own so...
I dont get it either, especially when NO ONE talks about their favs "iconic" status outside of this board. Most of the general public think their favs are apart of the lack of talent in modern music. Like damn give the man his pros

I understand that you may not like Michael Jackson, enjoy his music, or get his performance skills. But do you honesty mean to announce to us that you seriously can not understand the reason he is so special? Is it enough for you that he is one of the biggest selling acts of all time, has left a legacy so large that you can literally see his influence on the pop/R&B stars of late, revolutionized the way we look at and treat music videos, obtained a huge array of worldwide hits, marked himself as one of the greatest popular performers of all time, and just left a huge footprint on popular culture? By all means, continue to be perplexed and wonder "I wonder why a person who has achieved so much is great or special, because I just don't get it." That alone has me wondering where you were when he died, because the tributes and the fact that his movie is now the highest grossing documentary film of all time is a testimony to how much he has influenced popular culture today. And it is completely irrelevant, whether or not you think he is talented or creates good art; greatness is not subjective, it is something you can behold and see with your own eyes.
Does that clear things up for you?
It's not blasphemy, it's a truth.
This was sooo beautifully written. You dont have to be a fan to give props. Im not huge fans of many people, but I give props where pros are due.

MJ made three good records, had large appeal because of crossover music (the only truly inventive thing about it was that it crossed over so well), was a fairly good (but not great) singer/writer/producer, was a good dancer (even though it got very one-dimensional after the Bad Tour), had a fairly nice personality and made some fairly good music videos (he was the first to truly capitalise on them, which made them very innovative for their time; it wasn't really because of quality) and of course his massive sales (inflated by many).
But the greatest innovation of Michael Jackson's career wasn't even his doing - it was his marketing, PR and management. They changed the way people sold albums and built public personas for all new artists from the '90s onwards.
1) MJ had more than 3 good records.
2) MJ was a GREAT songwriter, producer and singer. Unlike the lady in your avatar (and many people favs on this board), he actually has album credits where he does ALL of those by himself. Some of his most popular songs are written, composed and produced by him. Billie Jean ALONE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WHATEVER ELSE
3)MJs greatest accomplishment to me is the visual arts and melodies. MJ used visual aspects to his advantage like no one did before and it made people take notice. It was MJs idea to perform Billie Jean on Motown 25, to shoot the Thriller Video, to make an album that transcended race and genre etc.. He also made music/melodoies that were easy for EVERYONE to sing along with no mater what age, gender, race, etc.
4) For someone who isnt a trained dancer he is a DAMN good dancer. Any of the dancers he worked with will tell you that. Many of them also use him as an inspiration of why they wanted to dance in the first place.
5) Youre delusional if you think MJs quality of video is only "mediocre". Whos better???
6) Even Prince said that when he think of MJ he thinks 'GENIUS". prince is not one to give out compliments to be nice.

I agree because no one ever makes a good argument for who is supposedly better than the other.
He went from a popular child star who was in a family boyband to an international pop phenomenon. No artist had done that. His transition was unseen and still unseen today. His popularity rivals that of The Beatles and Elvis.
On January 27, 1984, Jackson suffered second degree burns on his scalp while filming a Pepsi commercial at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The settlement was donated to the Brotman Medical Center in Culver City, California, where Jackson received treatment for his burns. The fact that my 6 year old brother literally jams to his music.
Now thats what i call an impact. He's timeless. He will literally live forever tbh.
I mean dlajdsl he's the ****ing KING OF POP. He is POP MUSIC. He has not made the name for nothing.
And the Beatles are FAR from that. They are forgotten imo. Barely see anyone talking about them tbh.
Bringing up my brother again. He doesnt even know who they are.
Might be irrelevant to you but every generation will know of Michael.
Other than the Beatles. And this is nothing but the truth.
He wasn't just a regular male artist that can sing amazingly and dance just as great. He was a legendary artist who wrote songs about changing the world for the better which brought many people from all over the world together to become united with one another. He used his fame and his popularity to spread love to one another. He cared for people who suffered, especially children, and didn't ignore those in pain. He was also a true humanitarian whom gave back, and he gave back MILLIONS. He didn't abuse his fame just for money, he used the money he gained, and even money that he didn't have to help out people he didn't know. He was listed in the 2000 edition of the Guiness Book Of World Records for breaking the world record for the "Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star". Michael Jackson has supported 39 charity organizations either with monetary donations through sponsorships of their projects or by participating in their silent auction. Now tell me what other artist has done that much for the world? This is what makes him so great.

I am an MJ fan but why oh why do his stans insist on writing such ridiculous comments, about even the greatest artists of all time? The Beatles "forgotten" ? Are you crazy?
Your brother will know who the Beatles are when he's a bit older, as will generations to come. I would say the likelihood of their music surviving is greater than that of MJ - although the likelihood is that his will as well.
I never understand why MJ stans have to place him on a pedestal in an almost religious fervour and knock everyone else down. He was just a man, a very talented man but that is all. Not a God.
