It's really not that hard. Just go to rapgenius or something or put your own spin to the lyrics to figure out what she really means, half of it is slang and metaphors anyway.
But as far as following along in your head you get the hang of it over time. To be able to recite it out loud... good luck.

Actually, now I can pretty easily understand what words she's saying, understanding the lyrics is something completely different. But basically all you need to know is what a bitch n*gga is and you're set for most of her songs.

Yes. The way she raps isn't the problem, it's the production/beats that sometimes can drown her out. But I love the way she flow and her ability to ride the beat like no other.

I tried reading the lyrics for **** Up The Fun someone posted a little earlier in this thread and I got a headache from seeing the word "bitch" and "little n**ga" over and over.

I'm not at all opposed to the words themselves, but is she saying anything in these tracks beyond "I'm better than you" or just coming for people? Her beats are cute and her flow is fresh and energetic, but if it's just that, I'll go read her twitter.

You could apply this to a lot of rap and MOST female rap, it's a style. It's flexing, it's being lyrical for the sake of being lyrical. Weezy made an empire out of rapping about absolutely nothing.

Not really. The only song that I got right away from her is "L8R". Most of my fave rappers don't have good diction, but it's an super important part of rap. I've been listening to 212 since December, but I only had a gist of what the song was about. I didn't completely get it til 2 months ago.

Yeah, I was bopping but I didn't really get 212 until I looked it up on Rap Genius. It wasn't until then that it really became a favorite of mine. Once you understand what she's saying (not just making out the words, but also understand the meanings behind the words), it really does change how you perceive the songs.

Rap Genius is a savior. Even when I understand rap lyrics, sometimes I like to just go and read what they have to say about the lyrics.

I think the way Azealia structures her songs have a lot to do with it more so than her diction. She really doesn't use standard hooks that often so the verses can be a blur for people that are accustomed to having verses "compartmentalized" by refraining hooks between them. So that usually gives people a moment to mentally check out and vibe with the production before paying attention again. It can kind of become a blur of bars after bars. I notice a lot of people can only pull quotes from her first verses off the top of their heads -- IMO, if her diction was REALLY the issue, no one would be able to catch any of it. Plus, her production is usually such quality that it is easy to just get caught up in the beats alone and completely disregard everything else after a few seconds of listening.
