They haven't, most black people don't use The Beatles. Let's keep it real here. Michael Jackson is the only artist who has transcended through all racial barriers. Michael is also not just limited to pop music but he transcends to all genres, so many artists from different musical backgrounds has cited him as a influence.

Michael's message of world peace has also brought various cultures together. He's literally treated like a King in some parts of Africa and even in the most obscure places of the world.

Pop stars dont need to be drastically different. His music was great but innovative from a vocal perspective - he'd have several layers of backing vocals and it would be catchy. Also i gather he was the dream of blacks WW. My parents still jam to his tunes as If it was 83 again. He simply has a strong discography when a lot didnt around that time. His popularity carried him too. It's a right time/place thing, like with the Beatles. Epic but the time period boosted the impact.

Christina Aguilera. Let's not forget the Stripped Era, The Mi Reflejo era, and her fights for women and equality throughout her entire career.

Black people NOW might not use them but I don't think they'd be the best selling artists EVER if black people didn't use them. My grandma loves them. Try another excuse

I personally believe that The Beatles have had more of an impact. I actually think MJ is overrated but apparently it's "blasphemy" to say that.

I was going to post in SYG some time ago (don't remember what prompted it) about how some people on here seem to resent his legendary status. On a site where the words legendary and iconic are constantly abused, I suppose some people don't like to be confronted with real examples of those terms. Which of course sounds ridiculous, but some members seem to conflate their faves' accomplishments with their own so...

The performances, the catchy music, the videos, the choreo, the charity and sweet personality, the EVERYTHING. Michael Jackson doesn't seem so unique now because everybody is trying to be a pop start on today's scene but back then Michael was the definition of a perfect popstart and arguably the first male to do it. He paved the way for all these girls we stan for

I didn't get it at first either, but you can play a performance of his from 20 years ago and still be wowed and the masses LOVED HIM!

His rise/image/personality ect remind me so much of Lady Gaga it's crazy. She is doing exactly what he did, just with a modern twist of controversy, more vigor, and more liberal.

I understand that you may not like Michael Jackson, enjoy his music, or get his performance skills. But do you honesty mean to announce to us that you seriously can not understand the reason he is so special? Is it enough for you that he is one of the biggest selling acts of all time, has left a legacy so large that you can literally see his influence on the pop/R&B stars of late, revolutionized the way we look at and treat music videos, obtained a huge array of worldwide hits, marked himself as one of the greatest popular performers of all time, and just left a huge footprint on popular culture? By all means, continue to be perplexed and wonder "I wonder why a person who has achieved so much is great or special, because I just don't get it." That alone has me wondering where you were when he died, because the tributes and the fact that his movie is now the highest grossing documentary film of all time is a testimony to how much he has influenced popular culture today. And it is completely irrelevant, whether or not you think he is talented or creates good art; greatness is not subjective, it is something you can behold and see with your own eyes.
