All popstars try to create distinct images which help them stand-out.They focus of their marketing strategies is on core competence.This is all business.We DON'T know who's real and who's not.It's so funny and retarded to believe that your 'fav' is oh so real just cause you want to,and then downplay another popstar's appeal by calling them 'fake' just cause you want to believe so.

Gaga's persona might very well be a way of communicating her artistic ideas,that doesn't make her 'fake'.And it takes x factor to carry the created persona too.You can't make a blonde bitch wear bacon and give her a catchy song and make her the next Lady Gaga.Done.

I mean, Gaga has no charisma no personality? Wow - I suppose that's why she's got so many people praising her in the industry - magazines, pop legends, you name it. She's charismatic - I mean, how else is she commanding such a massive fan base? Costumes only? It takes more than that.
Katy Perry is nice. So is Rihanna, I'm sure. But none of them have the massive following like Gaga - and it's because she's got a LOT of personality.

I do remember Britney Spears' breakout in 1999 and old enough to fully comprehend the marketing there (college kid). It is VERY true that her major selling point was the virginal school girl jail-bait. It wasn't until later, that she was acknowledged for her dance skills. If anything, I don't find anything overly charismatic about Britney. Sure, she's nice, but especially as of late, she doesn't seem to have a very distinct personality. Even the being harsh to contestants on X factor seems stilted.

People root for Gaga because they know she genuinely has talent and they enjoy her theatrics.

I have secondhand embarrassment for Monroe and some of the Britney stans in here.

That said, most big pop stars now have the X- Factor because if they didn't, they would not be as successful. If it were just her costumes that sparked interest, people like Grace Jones, Roisin Murphy and Björk would be SO much more bigger and they're all amazing artists but obviously dressing up crazy can only get you so far when it comes to getting such a massive following.

And as I recall, Gaga did not start off wearing anything out of the ordinary, unless you consider not wearing pants scandalous. Some mess said something about it wasn't until she performed JD and PF that they began to pick up. NO ****. If no one knows who the hell you are, you're obviously going to need to do promo and it was her performances that let everyone know of her "X-Factor". Having a hit right away ≠ having the X-Factor.

Also, let it be known that CHRISTINA was compared to Gaga (when the KGB video came out with her blonde hair and bangs), not the other way around. Which is why Christina went out of HER way to say "I don't know who this Gaga person is" etc, etc.
