I like Katy Perry. I think she's cute and I think shes made a catchy song or two BUT:

Look, Katy Perry has been riding this album since 2010 for a reason. This is her prime and she wanted to drag it out as much as possible.
It's coming to an end now and I doubt she'll be able to match the success of this era again.
She's an okay pop star that makes okay pop music but shes very easily replaceable.
What she does aesthetically is not genuinely strong enough to be considered one of a kind.

Believe me, the people that follow commercial pop music (just about everyone on this site) are all about who is on top at the moment. The minute Katy goes on a hiatus and others come in on top, she'll be pushed to the side and could even possibly be seen as passe.

Anyone that thinks Katy Perry is genuinely an iconic artist is just giving into sensationalism.
She's been a big success with this album and shes had a string of hits. But, her next album will tell the truth of her place in pop music. Until that next era proves her iconic, shes really just a fad.

It should have never been a feature film. Plain and simple.

Sure, it will be difficult to match TD's success with her next album but you can say that about Adele or any other successful person.

I'm not here for this ****. She should have done a world wide release and not just selected countries. It's not fair to her fans in Croatia for instance (and in any other country that won't have the film), and it would bring her a lot of money.

No I agree with you on everything. There is a reason the era is being dragged out so bad - it is likely that they feel this success wont occur again. Perhaps her lead single may be anticipated highly but it's unlikely that she'll pull all those #1s again. EW said it best - people are only interested in the catchy songs, which are largely produced by Dr. Luke. So in a way, I've always thought that most the honors should be to the producer for making the catchy beats.

If she were that iconic, people would have been rushing to see the movie; it didn't happen. I would pay money to see a biography on someone who truly struggled their way to the top. Madonna for instance, arriving in NY with 30 dollars and nothing more. Britney spears and her fall from grace. Hell, even Gaga and what makes her tick. But KP offers nothing interesting.

its boxoffice on monday is +1M, more twice Jonas brothers 3D concert did in its first monday (and it was released on a friday, so it was on its 4th day)

I think Katy opened in an awful weekend, with Spider-Man (long-awaited release) and Ted, Katy's movie got lost.

It was an amazing movie though she should be proud no matter what the sales.

That can be said about any successful artist. Everyone knows that the music industry isn't steady, no matter who you are.

The movie isn't a hit but it did boost her album back up 22 spots on BB to #2... like, it's not a total loss or something Katy should be embarrassed about.

Saying the producer should be credited for Katy's success is ridiculous

Katy will not be the first or last popstar to have a movie flop. At least she got good reviews, great album sales, and new fans out of it. Plus it was made by MTV studio which means it may eventually air on television. This will help her even more.

Capitol obviously partnered with Paramount to make the movie so her song and album would return to the top. When will your fave's flop labels tbh.

Nah you guys are bypassing the point by focusing on the most trivial sentence.
I recognize every artist has their peaks and valleys.

My opinion was that this era would be Katy's only very successful era.
I've looked through past pages of this thread and i've noticed people refer to her as if she is an iconic artist. But, I don't believe she has the qualities of an iconic artist.
Her particular brand of pop music makes her so temporary. Whether or not she isn't temporary will be proved with her next album. That's all I was saying. Idk what you guys thought I was trying to say....
