Call Me Maybe is nowhere near as generic as Pound the Alarm. They're both dance-pop songs though, but Call Me Maybe is one of the least generic dance-pop hits in years.

I wish every artist in the music business realized this. It seems as though many artists such as Nicki, Usher, and Chris think that the easiest way to get a #1 is by calling the nearest pop producer to produce a generic pop song for them. Sadly, until they realize that "different" instead of generic pop is "in" they will not have a #1 song. And that is exactly why PTA will not reach #1 on the Hot 100; its too generic and sounds similar to other songs on the radio.

Exactly. Scream, Where Have You Been and Turn Up the Music have all massively underperformed, it's fair to say. They'll realize soon. When Euphoria and Don't Wake Me Up underperform, hopefully they'll realize.
Not to mention, the song currently at #1 on iTunes is a mid-tempo/ballad.
There is absolutely no way Pound the Alarm is going #1. I think the song will be a big hit though, but not a #1. Pound the Alarm probably would've gone #1 in 2008, but it won't now.
