the mariah stans seem to be a bit confused. the question is who was bigger worldwide, not who is more successful overall.
the truth is celine was bigger worldwide at her peak than mariah was at her peak. which-by the way- what exactly was mariah's peak anyway? lol mimi was so damn successful throughout the entire 90s thats its way too hard to even pinpoint a peak LOL. her peak was the whole damn decade.
celine is bi-lingual and has put out albums in french so in a way it kind of makes sense why she is huge internationally. in fact, i think in general she is bigger overseas than she is here in the states.
mariah was the most consistent out of the vocal trinity but she never had a monumental era like celine and whitney did and thats OK. it doesnt take away from her success.

Mariah though could have extended her peak if she didn't suddenly go R&B/Hiphop with Butterfly after Daydream.
But if we're talking about the whole 90s decade, Mariah is definitely bigger.
