I don't know about other places but here in spain a lot of people listen to radio (not me), and then they download the song (here in spain almost nobody buy songs..they download it illegally) just because they like it, maybe they don't even know who is singing it
So I don't think that radio can make a song a huge hit (look at rihanna's WHYB, huge AI but the digital sales aren't that good) but it helps a lot

But are they gonna buy the album? Isn't a single got released to promote the album? If the singles' sales > album's sales, something is wrong there. And keep in mind that Top 40 music consumer are not the main music buyer (well, the soccer-mums & teenagers who don't know to download illegally, DO buy), Demi (in this case) is not really reaching a new audience. It's big, but not as 'big' as how it seems/promoted and doing less that what it should be. And on Demi, it's more like X-Factor that helps her single/album, Radio ate it because she's currently on the media. Once she's taking a break, will they keep play it? I will stick to my point that Radio monopoly is wrong and it's not the best indicator of a single's success or audience interest. Let's agree to disagree.
EDIT: the 'not reaching a new audience' part, I mean that she's still working on just Pop audience which is only 1/3 of the Mainstream music audience (which is 1/2 of music consumer). She's still working on her own circle.

Yeah, even though I live in the UK, I dislike how the charts work here for singles. It's promo, easy to get into the top 40, based on digital and we get new #1s like every week and also a top 10 debut every week.

But the UK Pop scene >> US Pop scene still.

O/T but when is the last time anyone has done this?
Country Songs
*** No. 1 *** "You Don't Know Her Like I Do" Brantley Gilbert
Greatest Gainer/Hot Shot Debut No. 22 "Truck Yeah" Tim McGraw
Debut No. 58 "Musta Had A Good Time" Parmalee
Debut No. 59 "Right Back Atcha Babe" Tim McGraw
Having two songs debut as singles. One from his new label and one from the old. I've never seen this happen before though have any of you?

Wrong move from McGraw & Borchetta. Why can't they wait till the Curb deal finished first? And with that awful song? That's what McGraw chose to do with his new found freedom? Curb can sue the **** out of them.

The only thing I like is that it gives new artist chances instead of the regulars in the US.

“I once used a Sharpie as eyeliner in an airplane bathroom because I didn’t have any with me,” the star tells Refinery29. “I don’t recommend it.”

“I’ve had two co-writes, and I’ve written the rest of it by myself,” Swift said about her upcoming record. “Co-writing is so much fun when you have time to schedule it in, but for me, usually songs hit me in the middle of the night and I end up writing it before dawn, so there’s no time to call somebody. When there is time and you can get in a room and talk it out and work it out with somebody, it’s like the coolest form of therapy.”

This quote is from December though. I'm sure that has changed. Taylor has been talking about how much collaborating and cowriting that she's been doing, has she not? I'd expect a lot more co-writes. I just don't know who's will make the cut!
I'm hoping for maybe half co-writes and half just her. I like to see what Taylor can do on her own because I know it's all her. Whereas with co-writes, you never really know who did what or how much of it was one-sided. I'm here for Taylor and Taylor only.

The cowrites with Ed and Mark didn't happen until after she said this. She could possibly have been referring to Lori McKenna or Dan Wilson, both of whom she's allegedly worked with. Or it could be someone else entirely.
If she does announce the album via livestream, I hope someone asks about collaborators and producers.

Taylor sis, that's an old article. Everything has changed. More co-writes, etc.

I'm wondering how many of these co-writes are actually going to make the album cut.

Nathan signed a writing deal with Universal last year. So if he has a word that he thought on the song, he will get a cred too now.
