Generally speaking, yes I do. If the artist is contributing to their own music, then it becomes more genuine and real. When they perform, they're singing their own words and demonstrating that they are a good lyricist. That's not to say artists who don't write their music are untalented though. If you can't write a decent song, then the artist should give the duty to someone else. In the end, good music is good music. It's just better if you write your own material though.

I think it's more inspiring, sure. It makes the music more meaningful to the artist I suppose if they write the lyrics themselves, but I don't mind if an artist uses other song writers for their stuff if they can relate to those lyrics, then it doesn't really matter.

Eh. Somewhat. It depends how good the song is. I don't think it's necessary to write all your own songs.. songwriting is hard and everyone has room for improvement. If you can improve your song with the help of another writer then good for you. I think an artist should at least co-write some of their songs but they don't have to do everything.
There are so many types of artists and performers that it just doesn't make sense to me to value one over another simply over a skill like that. Out of all of the performers of this generation, I probably have the most respect for Beyoncé. She does not write most of her music, and where she is credited, I'm fairly sure she only had so little involvement. My respect is for her abilities as a performer, her class, and her ability to interpret the songwriting of other people as her own, and that in itself is a difficult task to accomplish. Miranda Lambert did not write The House That Built Me, one of my favourite country songs of all time, but it obviously resonates close to her and it really shows through with how well she interprets the music.
Usually I don't think more or less of a performer just because they write their own music. I mean, Jessie J writes her own music but I'm pretty sure I'd have the same disdainful opinion of her if she didn't. I would still have a lot of praise for Lady Gaga if she didn't write her own music.
If they're writing something deeper than Top 40 fodder or tacking their name onto a song with 2-3 other professional writers.
Can't say I respect them more than artists that don't though. All I need to do is believe that the person singing the track believes in and represents it. There are many writers for pop stars I don't believe could be as authentic in their delivery of material as Elvis or Whitney were. They embodied their material and gave their songs their own unique identity, which can be just as personal as writing words.
