I think they will exchange concert tickets and backstage passes with CDs. Like if you want to attend a concert ,you should bring your CD inorder to enter. LMFAO. I'm so giving a great idea to RIAA.

I like buying cds.. i do agree with the poster that said cds is like a work of art.. i don't buy them as much mainly because i don't own a cd player anymore, so the cds are just for my car.

unless mp3 players start going down in price i don't think cds will entirely be gone. not everyone can afford $300 for the ipod.. when you can get a cd player for like $50 at Target.

just a question.. if cds became obsolete.. what would happen to the billboard awards? cause isn't that show based on album sales? or are digital sales included. I haven't watched it in years so i can't remember what they go by.

The ones that they spent 5 bucks on the booklet

Like I came across some albums that is just two pages long and has nothing in the booklet but one picture...and the track credits. The booklet is so thin you could almost see through it. Those are the cheap kinds. I like booklets like Christina's Back to Basic cd. Where there is a dozens of pictures in it and stuff like that. Or like Ciara's cd where for the interlude tracks she puts the lyrics up for it...and the pictures go with it. Hot!

thich, lyric-and picloaded booklets are essential for a cd today i think!...the booklet is the main reason to buy a cd instead of downloading it...but still, in many countries, like mine, a cd is far too expensive for it´s own good! a cd shouldn´t cost more than 15$...

CDs will still be around, but not quite as popular. Without a doubt, and this is a given: the most common bought form of music by then will be in downloaded digital form to something such as today's mp3 player or an I Pod.

However, I also think someone is going to come out with something smaller and more compact than the CD which will be popular for a few years at least. It could even be as small as or like a Nintendo DS cartridge. Sooner or later that smaller product could take up less shelf/storage-space in the average music consumer's music collection.

^well the minidisc worked out so-so hehe....i think cd(and vinyl for that matter) will linger....but the mp3 will reign!

Yeah the mini-disc has potential, but it hasn't been very marketed.

I think CDs will be around for a long time. Digital things increasing or not CDs will still be released. It's not like just because sales are declining to the highest selling is 60K will make every CD store close and every company say hey let's not release CDs anymore. Everyone won't have a credit card to buy CDs online and everyone won't want to use money on their credit card to do so either which will just cause more mahem. It's just the beginning of the year, no big releases. Sales will increase soon.

In ten years people won't even be buying I-Pods. Something more convienent for listening to music will have probably been invented.

I hope CDs will still be around. It's so good when you buy a new CD, have the booklet, the disc and all that. I don't like digital downloads, they are so impersonal. I think there's nothing like to "feel" the CD if you really enjoy Music. Plus, like people here said, it's a work of art. The artists do it in order to please theirs fans - although I know some booklets are cheap, when you see one like Christina's B2B, for example, you can understand what I mean - it's a priceless feeling. Oh yeah, I love CDs, ehehehee.

I Love purchasing a cd, it feels so great when you have that cd in your hand and you buy it and you go home and open it, it feels so great. If it were purchasing online, imagin how boring it would be if you had to upload the cd and recieve a list of 13 songs and go straight to listening, it's not fun, it's really boring, just hope people realize that cd's are awesome...
