The beginning of the decade is always similar to the previous. 2000 and 2001 weren't that much different from 1998 and 1999, people just tend to exaggerate the contrast. I think the decade will really start changing things in 2014-2016.

All decades are different. Remember the 2000s had no Rita, Jessie, 1D, Emeli Sande, Nicki etc.

You can already tell changes are about to happen. 2012 is turning out to be a transition year, at least musically. Technology is also continuing to progress forward.

2013 on will be interesting.

1990-1992 were very much like the 1980s. What kind of changes are you noticing in music?

That's... sad. Well, think of it like this. Britney and Christina dominated the end of the 90s and the beginning of the 00s, so that right there is a good example.

We're moving towards a more diverse Hot 100. Yeah, the same basic, generic, ****** music tends to dominate, but artists like Fun. and Gotye would NOT have reached #1 in the 00s. NEVER. Indie music is taking over.

The fact that digital market is now more prominent seems to grant buying music easier and we've have more varied charts now like aforementioned. Easier for new artists to branch out to the world nowadays. Though, piracy is still a big issue.

I seriously hope that the current dance music fad dies off quick as possible. It's getting annoying, though. I hope this decade has more experimental music.

I ALWAYS wonder what it was like to live in the 90s.

Society is falling deeper and deeper into a state of decadence. More and more celebrities are simply duplicates of celebrities from 10-20 years ago that people have forgotten about.

The difference between pop culture now and pop culture back then is that it's a lot faker and lacks originally. Most TV shows nowadays are either reboots of old TV shows or just reality TV which are mostly staged, but we still watch it.. Back then you had family sitcoms which were comforting to watch and they actually taught you something. Today's cartoons are lousy. Kids are really missing out on good cartoon's form the previous decades which really stood out and had something to day. Most movies now are just remakes or sequels.You have some celebrities who are famous for all the wrong reasons now. As for fashion, it's now more about labels and being like everyone else. Back then it cooler to be an individual.


However, I have to say there are certain things I like about this generation too, the internet gives all of us more access to issues in the world and it's easier to solve problems, you can just google them. If you're shy you can chat on facebook. But I do feel like this world is just bombarded with techie things and lacks any moral value.

I'd take "generic ****" over WAY any day

Maybe substance and attempts to try to be original will be huge during this decade. They execs might even realize there's a huge market out there for those who crave it.

I mean, film studios have art house divisions because they know there's a whole group of people out there who love those type of films. I'm glad they exist. It's all business, but at least something good comes out of it.
