2012 VMA Eligibility Period: July 1, 2011 - July 2, 2012???
According to (
this article, that's the eligibility year that's been sent to record labels, which is kinda weird since last year, according to MTV, the cutoff date last year was June 24, 2011 (see
here).
It makes sense they'd move the 2012 cutoff point since the VMAs are a week later this year, but if the 2011 date is July 1, then that would mean that videos that premiered between June 25 and June 30, 2011, will have never been in eligibility for a VMA. Not that much would be lost there (only notable snub I could think of is Coldplay's "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall," which is way better than any of the other videos they released this eligibility year), but it's still strange.
Let's wait and see if MTV says anything about eligibility this year...
