No. The song was the 4 single to an album an album that the buying public (those likely to buy songs on iTunes) already have. In fact, its high sales hurt it in the end. The song had no promotion, what so ever. And a top 20 single IS NOT a flop.

no.... a #16 song is not a flop imo. You have to remember that there are generally 40 popular songs circulating the radio, youtube and the rest of the internet at a time. That's why it's called top 40. To chart somewhere in the top 40 means you have a decently popular song. It may not be as popular as a top 10 song but it's still making its way to people's ears + pockets.

Think of the top 40 as a rolling stone's or some other music blog's "list." "Top 40 songs of the moment." If a song listed at #16... it's still regarded as a popular song of the moment. Thats why being #1 is such a big deal. Out of all the songs that are popular on radio etc, a #1 song is considered the best in terms of popularity. But that #16 was still a contender.

people EXPECTED it to go #1 since the previous 3 did. but as others said, digital sales were the downfall since nearly 10.5M people already own the song. plus, it didn't help that (around the time it was peaking) it wasn't available on spotify, so the song would have suffered even further from that effect. overall, it wasn't a flop.

Nah. It was an underperformer though.

Well, when half of the world's population has your album, it's kinda hard to have 4 #1 songs.
