The Pointer Sisters - appreciation thread!
I've recently re-discovered The Pointer Sisters after having a sort through my old albums. I came across one of my oldest CD's - the "Break Out" album re-release of 1984, and it's so fun to play back and listen to after a while. I haven't ever paid any attention to their career before the 80's, but I'm now making the effort and there's some cool gems back there. I've managed to find all of their earlier 70's albums available on CD, although I haven't got them yet, but there's a few later 70's and early 80's albums that I can't find on CD at all. I've ordered the 80's albums "Contact", "Hot Together" and "Serious Slammin'" on CD, as they prooved easy to find along with Anita's solo "Love For What It Is" album.
I was saddened to read that youngest sister June passed away earlier last year, lead singer on big hits "Jump (For My Love)" and "Dare Me" for instance. I've also tried looking up June's two solo albums "Baby Sister" and "June Pointer" but there are hard to find on CD too. I know that original fourth member Bonnie left between a switch of labels in the 70's, but it seems like she didn't have as much success as the three remaining sisters who went on without her. Most recently in 2003 "Jump (For My Love)" was covered by Girls Aloud and featured on the "Love Actually" soundtrack, although the original Pointer Sisters version was featured in the film.
Anyway, if anyone has any Pointer Sisters/related CD's that they wanna get rid of in very good+ condition, do let me know!!!
Just for laughs, here's the cheese-on-a-stick video for "Twist My Arm" of early 1986 featuring the guy who played Zed in Police Academy. It's every bit as cheesey or more as the "How Will I Know" video by Whitney Houston of the same time. Also, Kylie and Dannii Minogue covered this song during an anti-drugs kids concert in Australia a year later right here!
