It doesn't make sense, because they're terrible songwriters. I'll be back to provide examples, but perhaps the biggest one that comes to my mind nowadays would be the transexual our dear Mazen is infatuated with. A question - do they write crap strictly to get the money, or do they simply have no one to tell them they suck ass as lyricists?

Lyrics don't really matter anyway in pop music. So artists with good producers can write all the crap they want. And then the public perceives it as artistic integrity.

Pop artists usually don't take songwriting very seriously unless they insist on doing so. Rappers of course don't help that much either.

Teddy Geiger wrote 11 out of the 12 songs on his album and he was on bilboard. he says he can't really sing anything that doesnt mean anything to him, or theres nothing deep or meaningful to him. He expresses himself through his lyrics and i love them =]
