I like Evanescence, but their music has never had the same effect on me as Florence's. I do think they are still more popular - having a 15M + selling album asfter 2000 is quite the accomplishment and not something quickly forgotten.
I love Evanescence, but Florence's music just has more variety.
I mean the strings, the harps, the percussion...

Oh god, this takes me back to 6th grade when Evanescence, Linkin Park and Breaking Benjamin fueled my prepubescent angst. I thought I was so deep for listening to them.
Will Florence ever have a masterpiece like this?
Will Florence ever have an album that sold 15 million copies?
Will Florence ever have a song as big as bring me to life?
Will Florence ever write a song as good as my immortal?
Will Florence ever have the performing skills of Amy lee?

No, no, no, no and hell no.
Evanescence wins by default
Sorry, but besides the second question (which is likely not, but then neither will someone like Gaga or Rihanna by the way) the answers are we don't know, or yes, depending on taste.

Do you really think that Florence is a better performer than Amy?
And no, it's not subjective. Evanescence >>.

First, Florence is a great performer, so its an issue of tastes, and two, yes, it IS subjective, so get over it - all of a sudden you have a breakdown because the poll seesawed back in a way you don't like?
The only thing we can say objectively is that back in 2003 Evanescence had a HUGE album, that, given the change in physical sales, very few acts today will ever match (Florence likely being one of them not likely ot match) and it got them two Grammys, wich is a great accomplishment. If you want to base your statements about superiority on that, feel free, but I doubt you have given Florence Welch and her peformances much of a chance, so I don't think you have much ground to stand and make declaritive statements like ou have.

What are you talking about? if you asked this question outside atrl 90% of people wouldn't even know who florence is. no offense to the fans, but I personally have never heard any of their songs
You're right about them not being very popular now but their music has had WAY more impact than just "two singles"... bring me to life, my immortal, everybody's fool, going under, call me when you're sober, lithium.. those songs were huge. Bring me to life alone is like one of the best and biggest rock songs of all time. Fallen has sold 17 million copies.. there's really no competition
I don't know where you live, but where I'm from (the US), they are well-known. Yes, Evanescence is the technically more successful act of the two with way more albums sold, but that doesn't necessarily translate into impact. All the songs you named were indeed popular, but it's only BMTL and My Immortal that have had the most impact to still be played on the radio and be remembered by the public. Ask people today to name any EV song other than those two, and most will draw a blank. I'm not suggesting that Florence & the Machine have become massively huge or anything, just pointing out Evanescence have not made an impact as a band. They're mostly seen as a relic of their time, and their unwillingness to evolve their sound and image proves that.

Having spent a great deal watching just about every video of the band I could find on the internet at one point, I can say that they were wildly inconsistent live at best. Amy does not have the performing skills of a rock star. I haven't been checking for them lately, so I don't know if she's improved, but from what I've seen, no, they weren't that great live. If she's not sitting behind a piano, it's usually a disaster to watch.
Florence isn't perfect either, but when she's lacking, at least she usually makes up for it in another way.
