News: Deadly Flooding Strikes Western Canada

Hollywood.

Six straight weeks of rainy, cool weather has lead to rivers and lakes spilling their banks in British Columbia and Alberta.

Thousands already evacuated from their homes, well the flooding has already claimed at least one person's life.

The city of Calgary, has isused flood watches, and closed several streets and parks.

I can't believe this is happening in my country.

My house is right on top of a hill that overlooks the valley and everyday you can see the river just getting larger and larger. Lord it is scary.

I've been seeing this in the local news for the past few days

I really hope that it doesn't continue along the Fraser River.. especially because where I live is really close to sea level

EDIT: The entire city of Richmond is only a few meters above sea level

The city of Vancouver, North Vancouver and Richmond shouldn't be effected by flooding. (Well parts of Richmond along the fraser river could be.)

Well, I was watching the local news and they said that thankfully the next few days will be dry. Hopefully this gives everybody enough time to clean up. And maybe the evacuation warnings can be lifted soon.

There's more rain in store for the BC interior this weekend though. And that's the hardest hit areas.

Southern Alberta should remain dry until at least next monday.

my family has a cabin at Mara Lake, adjacent to Sicamous, and, luckily, the main floor is about five feet from ground level, but my dad drove out there yesterday to check out any possible damage.

Except it was one of the coldest June's on record. That's hardly 'global warming'.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow, if I wake up early enough of the flood waters around my house. My backyard is basically a lake right now.
