Actually, it's much more than that. It took years to actually have a major label keep her. She had an album in 2005 that was supposed to get released under Columbia (Beyoncé, Adele) but they dropped her and left the album alone. Her parents were also really strict about what music she could listen to and whatever, her parents weren't supportive of her wanting to be a pop star. She was a christian rock artist for a while too, but the label that was released under closed too. It wasn't until 2008 she had a major label album, and she wasn't a household name until 2011. That's roughly 10 years of material.
