Ever since the release of PS1 and the death of the fighting genre, the developers have limited to release their games on consoles only or japanese arcades only. And by this time, SF was on hiatus, and Tekken came out.
So let's NOT. What we can compare is the titles released to the same console: Sf4 and T6 (which in the US at least, was strugglin until the price dropped to $4 ).
BUT, if you want to go that way, just so you know, Capcom made more money off of SF2 on the arcades than Tekken's whole life-cycle
CONCLUSION: While SF isn't the best selling fighting game franchise since its popularity started on the arcade days, it has made more money off of ONE game than Tekken with it's total lineup. However, whan it finally came out in curent-gen consoles with online play and all, became an instant classic with more critical acclaim and sales than the competition, showhing them how it's done. Thus, SF remains the most iconic, relevant and influential of them all, and the stans of the other franchises will DEAL.
