I can't at some of the delusion in this thread.

More so than Katy's, that's all. Rihanna is not nearly as bubble gum/girly girl. And Katycats, don't get your panties all in a wad. This isn't a drag on Katy. There's nothing wrong with her or her music.

And you bring up those singles specifically because?
There are plenty of straight guys who I know who are keen to Crazy in Love, Just Dance, Bad Romance, Telephone, and the like. Obviously you brought up the gay-friendly BTW and the bombastic feminist ode RTW to back up a VERY one-sided argument. No where in my argument did I say that straight guys DON'T listen to her. I just said that Katy mainly caters to a female demographic, and that is FACT.

I don't think Katy necessarily "caters" to anyone, she writes and makes music she likes.

Most of the guys I talk to in school like her music, but when asked about Gaga, reply with disgust or distaste

I can't with the generalization
Yes, you most likely won't see straight guys jamming to CG and TD but they might bop to FW and jam to E.T, LFN, TOTGA
Straight men love her for her looks and love her for some of her songs...honestly Snoop Dogg had to have been jamming out to CG

I brought them up because it was the perfect example of how you said guys listen to Katy as much as Gaga and Bey.
All 3 had empowerment anthems. I just compared them.

I like her songs but her personality is weird. She seems kinda cold, which isn't bad but its weird with the image she puts out

You're saying Gaga and Bey have more straight male fans?
Oh and receipts on the "FACT"

Also, those of you critiquing Katy and calling her "safe", may we take a quick look at Gaga?
Born This Way, of course, was not a safe album, however, the singles chosen were easily the safest singles. All had the redundant, synth filled hook (Judas most notably, rehashing the Bad Romance Hook), and all were VERY safe for radio (in terms of beats, catchiness, etc.) The only risk she took was Marry The Night, and interscope admitted to it.
If we're going to pull the "safe" card, the only artist that can be brought into the debate is Bey, since she's released a lot of unsafe singles out of 4.
I'm not shading, I'm just attempting to sort out some of the delusion in this thread.

Katy is so popular because while her music may be generic, she happens to be a fun person with an overall enjoyable atmosphere about her.
And being generic isn't really a bad thing, either; TD:CC (minus the extra remixes and the mashup, I mean the 15 original songs) has an average 9.63 rating for me.

Yes the singles were safe, but they were far from the safest. I didn't see "Scheisse" or "Hair" being released to radio.

She isn't polarizing, nothing she does aggravates, upsets or bothers anyone. She releases 'fun,' and safe singles, + people buy them.

Oh please, everyone said TOTGA and WA were going to flop and they ended being Top 5 hits. The magnitude of success they have had doesn't change the fact that the single choices were not safe. TOTGA is an okay track, and I think releasing it as a single right after her 6 upbeat previous smashes was a risk, especially since LFN was released before. Even I was not sure if the gp were here for the sad, remorseful Katy, but she has proven us all wrong twice. It's mind baffling when people say she doesn't take risks, when she decided to release WA, a melancholic, gloomy track on the freaking summer, in which songs like "PRA" and "Dynamite" tend to make serious chart damage.

I like Katy but she's 100% formulaic. Works with the guaranteed hitmakers for generic but successful results. There's little to no risk taking in any of her work. Teenage Dream = manufactured bubble gum. One Of The Boys is a much better album IMO. I like her though and she's gorgeous.. her appearance definitely helps. And she's everywhere promo wise.

God, I don't know how many times we've stated this but here we go. Did Britney get Katy-leveled success with the Dr Luke packed Femme Fatale? Did Primadonna smash? Was Domino a chart juggernaut? Making music with the top producers on the industry does not equal to instant chart success. Other artists make manufactured bubble gum albums and they don't get 2 cents for it. Katy made "TD" simply because she had the desire to release a massive pop album (just like she has stated she would love to make an acoustic record), not because she was striving for 6 #1's. Even Katy's expectations were surpassed.

She's moved on from the bubble gum pop and the whole world sees that.

With an intent to support a baseless argument. Straight guys listen to Katy just as they do with Gaga and Beyonce.
