Katy is the prime example of modern "commercial" pop. She has done it better than anyone else who has tried to do it.

It is worth mentioning, though, that not everyone tries to do "it". For example - Gaga doesn't try to do it. Adele doesn't try to do it. Rihanna, Ke$ha, and Britney (to a lesser extent now) have all tried to hop onto that same formula - with varying degrees of success.

Katy is a businesswoman. She & her team know what needs to be done to get #1's. However, remember that #1's and exposure doesn't necessarily equal $$$. She might make much more money with only 1-2 hit singles per era but a HUGE tour - something she didn't have.

That being said - when you combine her single sales, plus decent album sales, PLUS 3D movie, plus whatever other promos she's doing and getting paid for - she is making bank with very little ARTISTIC effort necessary.

All this being said - I value her TONS as a businesswoman, but I give her little-to-no credit as an actual artist.

Because she makes fun, care-free, catchy music, her image is good and ppl seem to enjoy that from the pop stars, actually I like her for those reasons.

Given the theme of the song, obviously it would be popular amongst boys.

As for the other part, they probably would because Katy embraces a stereotypically "feminine" image, and hence they are afraid that one might imply that they are gay. This proves my point, and disproves the fallacy that Katy doesn't alienate people.

Uh, a lot of straight guys listen to Gaga and Beyonce too. I fail to see how Katy's impact would be vastly more diverse than the two other women.

Okay, yes, I admittedly did generalize. I am sure there are straight men that do like some of her music. Probably the ones that are about a 2 on the Kinsey scale.

The majority of straight men I'm sure would not listen to Katy. They'd listen to Rihanna over Katy simply because of the style of music. If there were a ( NON ATRL) poll, I would not be wrong.

But yes, some of you did mention that straight men are obviously not her main demographic. So kudos to you for not being as delusional.

I mean her last era had 4 "4x platinum" singles and her songs had over 120 million of AI, I don't think that's only thanks to gays or little girls as many ignorant ppl have claimed here.

You must admit E.T., LFN, TOTGA and WA have been really successful with practically no promo. And don't start with the remixes and discounts. You know LFN and TOTGA were big hits even before those promo tactics.

Could you see a straight guy jamming to BTW? Or RTW? Katys singles are all likeable and even when she does empowerment anthems, they could cater to everybody. Straight guys listen to her, get over it.

Some of you are so stereotypical about everything with these generalizations

I see a lot of people on my fb and in my school BOYS & GIRLS who occasionally play Katy songs especially E.T or Last Friday Night. Not only girls and gay people listen to her music lol I also know boys who are fans of her, not hardcore "stans" but they genuinely like her.

Not everything is so black and white. Times are changing and different kind of groups are starting to open up to various genres such as pop music.
