Discussion: Why can't these boy bands dance?

I guess the standards for Boy Bands have dropped, but it's still not horrible. They don't have to dance, but dancing used to be one of the main ingredients of being a boy band.
ONe of the only new groups who have the essence of an old boyband is Mindless Behavior.
They do choreography, and each have their own separate persona.

Really?
A lot of us must not be watching the same footage then. Both of them have great stage presence when they perform on tour.

If you are offended, I apologize. But the rest of the post still stands.

Did they write EVERY song on their debut album. Do they play more than a guitar (I see one of them with a guitar). Do they play drums, bass, and other acoustic instruments. All the answers are no.

Anyway, One Direction is amazing. They sing well for a pop group, all have distinct voices, and have great technique harmonizing. Niall, the best member of One Direction also plays guitar and has writing credits for melody. That >> doing some corny ass dance in front of a green screen.

They still played Overprotected and Beautiful, but yeah they do blacklist artists.
Avril got blacklisted during The Best Damn Thing, although they still play Complicated, Sk8er Boi, My Happy Ending, and Keep Holding On occasionally.
But, they are kinda opening up since the new age is 16 on that station.

Just because you don't follow Asian pop and would rather discuss One Direction and The Wanted in all their glory doesn't mean you have to act a fool.

I'm sorry I don't remember this thread being about the Asian pop scene? I actually do follow K-Pop and even though they dance well, sing well, and pretty much do everything better than any western or UK "boyband" could, they have no impact compared to current boybands. They didn't before, they don't now, and they probably won't in the future given the "success" of SNSD's US "crossover", so you can take several seats

It's alright, that one statement was out of context but I can respect your opinion.

Such a Western POV. Lmao.
Europe and America =/= The world. K-pop is making a major impact throughout Asia so to act like those groups are irrelevant beyond South Korea is laughable at best. And please don't try to save face by acting like you listen to K-pop when your clear lack of knowledge is proving the opposite. Like...

Liam also plays guitar and piano and Louis plays piano, and they both also have credits for composing melodies on the album. They're really not as untalented as people make them out to be.

You're right, it was about boy bands and their ability to dance.
As far as I'm concerned, they were on topic.
Were they not?

Both of you are right. While Western boy bands do not have impact in Asia (they used to), Eastern boy bands have no impact in the West. So I guess it balances itself out. Many posters did say that dancing boy bands is a bit cliche. So I guess that answered one question. Now this thread is evolving which I like.

Yeah it definitely has.
But I still have the sense that they only play songs that are SQUEAKY clean.
The only Katy Perry songs to get played on there were Firework, Part Of Me and Wide Awake. All the other songs were not played on there.
Far East Movement only has the clean stuff.
And Cher Lloyd isn't a big deal because her song was ok anyway.
I mean, I really can't think of that many good mainstream songs that aren't with just being you or a cute relationship or just chasing your dreams or something.

They all play at least 1 instrument, and 1 of them plays the drums
I don't get what you're going at here though? If they were marketed as a dance + sing group ala pussycat dolls then I could see you complaining, but they never claimed to be? They don't try to act sexy or touch themselves and grap their crotches trying to be something their not? I'm sorry they don't try and fit to the traditional NYSNC risky faux-sex desperate boy band mold that you seem to hold so highly, but once again they act like normal teenagers. Plus you're attacking a 1 year old band compared to a 65+ year old career of the most famous boy band in history. I don't your point in this desperate reach to compare them. I don't know much about TW and if they say they can dance, but multiple members of 1D say they don't like to dance, so they stay away from choreo, I'd rather have that then them fall on their asses to make you happy so you can compare them to the Beatles?

Instead of arguing we should make an alliance.
K-Pop, J-Pop, British, American it's all the same: they're all boy-bands.
And quite frankly, I believe they're all talented in their own right.

Right, and there's nothing wrong with that because it's the truth. But to act like we're off-topic for posting K-pop boy bands who can dance their asses off is a mess.

Thank you.
Are you trolls satisfied now? Is this the positive recognition that you came here for?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of these girls are acting as if when a boy band gets together, God summons Moses to come barring the 10 boy band commandments. One Direction do what is natural for THEM.
They have done more than enough to contribute to their brand and have been vocal about taking an active role in their music and image.

They recently said people associate them with lip-syncing and dancing but they can't do either of those things.
