"Realistic television" = shows without any fantastical elements to them (such as sitcoms, dramas like Grey's Anatomy, House, CSI, etc., reality TV)

Sometimes I have this weird thought in my mind of what will happen once television & movies run out of realistic plots to depict. Especially on television with comedies & some of the genres (since we've seen how redundant these show topics can be sometimes).

Will there always be a fresh supply of new ideas? Or will entertainment begin to dwell even further into fantasy/sci-fi/etc.

I mean, look at books. There are plenty of stories to tell.

They'll just recycle ideas.

There will always be new, original ideas left out there. Whether or not television producers decide to innovate and search for them is another story.

Look at LOST. One of the best shows ever (If not THE best), and it did all the great things it did in a creative way.

You basically summed up my thoughts perfectly. The human mind is infinitely creative so I don't doubt that these creative shows could be made, but I am more worried of them not willing to search for new ideas.

I just hope realistic television eventually finds some more original plots. I have hope that will but if not fantasy/sci-fi will become the go-to genre.

Someday there will be a channel brave enough to put on new kind of shows that will suddenly change TV like ABC did with Lost, Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy 2004 after TV seemed to boring the years before.

MusicTalker: Try cable shows. They're the best series by far on TV right now. Revenge and Nikita are great, too, though.

I think they just should replay old classic that ppl have forgot about like rugrats, full house, summerland, privlage etc.
