You do realize over the past 10 years there have been HUNDREDS of chart hits that were played on both urban and pop radio?
I listen to urban radio a lot, and Marilyn Monroe is PERFECT for urban. I've already heard the song on a lot of stations. Have you heard it on any pop stations yet?
Infact, Marilyn Monroe already charted at #19 on the R&B/Hip-hop chart back in April. Here's the proof:
http://www.billboard.com/#/song/nick...onroe/28365915 And this was WITHOUT being made a single. The urban stations were just playing it out of choice. It would get to #1 on urban if it was made a single.
Sometimes it's good to release urban songs as pop singles. Imagine what would've happened if Rihanna made What's My Name? urban-only. She took a risk, and got #1, 20th biggest song of 2011, and one of her most iconic songs now. A lot of the songs on Nicki's album have potential. When songs are released on both pop and urban at the same time, the airplay goes through the roof. That's how Rude Boy got #1 for 6 weeks without ever going to #1 on iTunes, because urban radio were playing it.
EDIT: Sorry if this post sounds rude. Just seeing people suggesting Nicki releasing 4 songs that sound almost the same one after another is just ridiculous imo. That's the sort of thing Taio Cruz does.
