A lot of people were on board when he dropped "Climax." It was different and fresh. Hipsters even praised it. Then he releases "Scream," something so typical and safe.

Scherzy is right to an extent. These urban artists need to stop with the desperate urge for a hit. Their sales tend to suffer.

I agree with you for the most part, but what has your replay to do with my post? He could have recovered his stanbase (partially) with a good R&B album just like Beyoncé did, it wasn't too late in my opinion.

And with regards to Nicki... looks like these dancepop albums just work for females. We don't even have a properly succesful dancepop male artist, and Usher wasn't going to be an exception.

EDIT: Not saying that Beyoncé recovered her stanbase, she just had a strong first week with a great R&B album. Just clearing it up.

I'm talking dance song = trash song, i'm not talking about pop hits ! + the pop hits you're talking about are r&b appeal pop song just like the mythic YEAH! ....

OMG is not a dance song, it was a r&b/pop appeal song which became a multiformat hit, that's what barely save Raymond sales ...

Usher is a pioneer of modern r&b, Chris Brown is nothing. So him doing dance song goes without saying, Usher not really.

Why are people complaining about Chris's pop hits anyway? He had Look At Me Now, which was an urban crossover hit, and MUCH bigger than Yeah 3x.

And with Usher's last era, OMG wasn't THAT sell-out-ish. Listen to just the instrumental, it's very urban-friendly for a dance-pop song. It's nothing on the levels of Starships or More, so not going to make his fanbase completely lose hope in him. It was DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love, Dirty Dancer, etc. that did it.



EDIT: Just read Scherzy's post. He agrees with me. OMG has urban elements in, as well as dance. There's no way you can quite compare it to Scream, Starships, etc.

That's disappointing

"OMG" did reach #3 on the R&B/Hip Hop charts, so it was appealing to the urban crowd.

I'm loving all these sell-out backlashes this year, not gonna lie.

Yeah, I liked most of the songs and I loved some too. It's just that I don't like him trying to cross over so poorly and I have to criticize him for that. He deserves to flop to an extent.

You will see me supporting "Dive" when it's released to Urban radio.

And it sold 80k more a year after Loud with no Urban single.
