I knew it was a lost cause from the get-go, but I tried

For both Gaga and Madonna's sakes, I hope this all calms down as they both clearly respect each other but each event (the last being Madonna's set list), just causes the whole story to start up again. It's beyond ridiculous

I believe you
They both need to accept their parts in this mess. Knowing their egos....

The Jay Leno transcript
Quote:
Jay Leno: Let me ask you about this controversy....this whole thing with Madonna and Express Yourself. What are your thoughts on this?
Lady Gaga: There really is no other adoring and loving Madonna fan then me. I am the hugest fan personally and professionally. Well the good news is I got an e-mail from her people and her and sending me her love and support for the record. And if the queen says it shall be, then it shall be.
|
I dont see how saying it was done over e-mail rather than in another form of communication would be something Madonna would be displeased with. I feel like all of Madonna's and Gaga's interviews would have been derailed with questions about each other if Gaga said "oh yeah I played this track at her house" or "she called me and spoke to me personally about it." If Gaga didn't get Madonna's support, then shes obviously in the wrong. But thats not what im hearing.

No, she claimed Madonna and her team fully supported the song / and that the claims of such were "retarded."
The next day Gaga looked foolish when Madonna's team released a statement saying no such email was sent.
Just think, Madonna doesn't care about a such record and suddenly claims are on the news that she "fully supports it." PISSED.

According to BMI, if you are performing a song that you don't own the rights, the arena/stadium/club/theatre/steakhouse that hired you to perform HAVE to pay the rights.
Quote:
About Broadcast Music, Inc.
BMI collects license fees on behalf of songwriters, composers and music publishers and distributes them as royalties to those members whose works have been performed.

Quote:
As a performer, you do not have to pay performance royalties. These are paid by the venue which hired you to perform. However, if you record your show and sell it as a live album, you will need to pay for the compulsory licenses, discussed later in this article.

Well your narrative doesn't really make sense, you're providing false information about permission being required for a cover, and you haven't declared any sources other than yourself...
You're expecting a lot from us.

How is it a lost cause? Most of us believe you, but we just want some simple details that could shift the story and blame significantly. A simple "yes" or "no" or "I don't know" could have sufficed when I and a few others asked you whether or not Gaga knew if M liked BTW before the email statement.

Yeah, definitely. But since collaborations in the future are possible, I guess it means that this will all be behind us soon.

If you cover a song on tour you don't have to pay royalties.. only if it's distributed, or sold in any way.

Hence why no one has had the guts to say anything about it for the past year
I should probably follow suit like the others and not say a word, I totally get it now

I'd be pissed as hell too - especially, as you've said, since they had a friendship and were amicable towards each other professionally.

I just wonder, seeing as we now know she lied about the Email... Publicly, and on national television, at that... What else has she lied about? I don't mean things like the BTW Country Road Version video or anything like that, I mean... Other things...

I get having to protect your sources, but it's not like you saying 'an employee at _____' or 'someone who has worked with Gaga' is going to narrow it down to a number less than ~100? You're asking A LOT telling us to take this all on faith.

But we knew she lied about the email the day after she said it on Jay Leno. This is the least shocking part of the story.

Before this lie was told, Madonna liked BTW and had no issue with it.
|
When someone likes something, it is generally assumed that they support it.

That was always a ludicrous rumor, my friend.
