She's a singer-rapper that makes pop, R&B and Hip Hop music.
When she denies she's a popstar, she deserves to be dragged.
She should just say "Yes I'm a popstar, but I'm also hip hop and R&B". End of discussion.
Instead, she makes a complete ass of herself. Always.

With Pop fans it's always on to the next biggest thing. Hip Hop fans will ride with u for the long haul IF and only if u continue to make great music and stay loyal to them. That is why many rappers had longevity such as Snoop Dogg, Jay, LL Cool J, and yes, even Kim before she went to jail
I'm not saying ALL pop fans are fickle, that's a bad stereotype, but we have to be honest here
Some people are more enticed by Nicki's single sales than her building a legacy of becoming a great memorable respected rapper It irks me

And on Roman Reloaded when she IS rapping, it's completely overdone and overexagerrated. Like, she needs to find a balance of crazy and not just random grunting. She had it before, but she's lost it.

Even if she did an all rap album you still wouldn't be pleased, you shade Nicki to the max

she's really good at making pop songs. I think she should focus more on working with urban producers who have a poppier sound (like Kane Beatz and Andrew Wansel).
but I think she'll continue to release studio albums that are split between hip hop & pop, releasing hip hop mixtapes along the way in an attempt to appease certain fans and critics.

NICKI DIDN'T just pop up with some pop song and became a phenomenon.
She came up the true hip hop way, from underground rapper, to mainstream. Her URBAN fans were the ones who rode with her since MYSPACE They were a biggest support and she knows this. She even said most of the sales of Pink Friday came out of NEW YORK.
Nicki is accepted by the urban community. Don't let people fool u. Yes, people might get annoyed with Nicki but it's not like she's completely dismissed by the urban community.
Nicki is a Hip Hop artist at her core and nothing will change that. She SHINES when she does Hip Hop and has a gloss on her that is unique and her own. When she does pop, she becomes a dime a dozen instead of a unique talent who can't be duplicated.
I really don't get why some people want her to become a full pop artist. It's great to have a few crossover pop-rap hits like "Superbass" but that's where it should end.
I could write a whole dam thread on this but I'd rather just do it in sections :deadbanana;

Lol.
He's insisting that she drops her entire urban following to chase after the next Ke$ha throwaway track. **** like that is forgotten and does not guarantee "longevity." She can experiment with music all she wants. No one said she shouldn't, but she shouldn't forget where she came from. The pop crowd is the ficklest things ever. When the pop hits dry up, they move on to the next hot thing. That's why artists build followings in niche markets. He needs to stop throwing the idea around that Nicki needs pop hits to be remembered. She needs good music to be remembered. Anyone can get a hit.

Let me say this again...People also need to realize this album she had fun making and it made her happy making it, PF she felt she couldn't do what she wanted, only what the public wanted

Shouldn't it be a Rapper who makes Pop and R&B, considering she's been a Hip-Hop artist since what '03 with the Hoodstars.

And this is really all that needs to be said. I have no issue with Nicki doing pop songs but she can't forget the people that made her.

But Nicki's rap oriented and hip-hop songs are successful. Not Super Bass or Starships level, but if you look at the big picture, every rapper is struggling. Lil Wayne, Drake, Eminem, etc. they all have to have same pop beats going on somewhere to shoot up the Hot 100. For what the hip-hop crowd is right now, Nicki is doing fine.

Honestly, if Nicki does an album that's reminiscent of BMUS + PF(Deluxe), she'll be just fine on both the hip hop and pop fronts.

Cause they're too busy moving on to the next Rihanna and Katy Perry song that they hear on the radio. Her pop songs are her most successful cause pop is the hit genre right now. Success isn't everything, and you won't get that until you get your head out of the charts. We want Nicki to stay with hip-hop because we want her to make an impact and be remembered as a rap icon. Her hip-hop songs are better than her pop songs, and hip-hop is her calling. Not being some throwaway pop artist that never found an identity. Good lord Division.

really, okay i admit where them girls at is questionable but "turn me on" is iconic. i get what your saying but really if shes looking for ww smashes shes gotta do those type of songs i agree they arent as good as her hip-hop songs but they do way better than her hip-hop songs will ever do. and she will be remembered as a rap icon, but being a rap icon is a small accomplishment, why settle for less when you can have much more the same can be said for katy and rihanna. i mean if it aint broke dont fix it. nicki wants a legacy, she wants to be more than that rachet bitch from the hood that could rap, she wants to be a legend and those pop songs are making her legacy weather you like it or not. and really starships is doing way better than any katy or rihanna song released this year.

I want Pop Rap. I want more "Super Bass", "Roman Holiday", "Fly", "Right By My Side", "Whip It", etc. and less generic pop songs like "Automatic", or "Masquerade" and less hardcore hip-hop songs like "Roman Reloaded" and others.

KD, Maya and fortheloveofmusic are knowing Jesus right now.
Nicki cannot forget her roots. She is good at Rap and being good will give her longevity. Her Pop music is horrible and with Pop hits alone she will be forgotten.

!!!! The fact that she had so many top 40 hits from Pink Friday that were mostly urban says a lot. The fact that Pink Friday sold 375k first week off of URBAN SINGLES/FEATURES mixed with crazy hype says a lot.
Moment 4 Life sold a lot. She has so many platinum songs and for a rapper that is AMAZING. Another reason why Nicki shines more as a rapper than a pop artist.

Being a rap icon is not a small accomplishment.
"Turn Me On" isn't iconic, and the songs she does will not turn her into some pop culture phenomenon and will not guarantee her Mariah/Madonna longevity.
