Eh, not really in 2012. I think that's a popular misconception because it started with black and hispanic people and the only relevant voice in the Urban community that is white is Eminem. In the town that I live the population in like 80% white and everyone I know listens to hip-hop over anything else.
*By the phrase I high-lighted I'm assuming you mean that the people who listen to Urban music the most are hispanic or black.
