There charts are out on Friday, so to give it a full seven days worth of sales the songs are released on a Friday, and in the UK the charts are on a Sunday.

The same reason albums are released Monday in the uk and Tuesday in the US. The chart week starts on Friday in Ireland, all albums are released on Fridays there.
