I wouldn't say Katy Perry can get many points here. Her voice is average, she isn't too much of a great lyricist, and the verses on her songs are mostly denotative instead of connotative. She's got the visuals, though.

I appreciate it when Pop artist have artistic input and use their own artistic vision/lyrics, but even then, most pop artist including P!nk, and even my fave, Madonna, are probably not gonna ever be considered "REAL."

Some of you are just listing your faves.

Why? if everything is coming from their heart and personal life experiences and they express it through music and lyrics why not?

I think that what "fake" music might be is music that isn't created out of the genuine love for music. It's a business - artists create music that will appeal to the masses but have no real substance, to me some of it just comes off as contrived. When I see people like Pink, Beyonce, Lady Gaga perform live you can just see how they genuinely love what they're doing and those are "real" artists - not just a money-making marketing machine... They're inspired by previous artists and you can see that they have a deep-rooted love for music. There are many "real" artists that aren't famous.

A lot of you are just listing the people you stan for.

Gaga's artistic ambition is good, but the visuals usually tend to distort the atmosphere of the song. Bad Romance is the only song where all three combine together perfectly.

Every mainstream artist adopts some sort of image and persona to portray to the public. It's a way to sell themselves and make them known, and most of them aren't genuine in the traditional sense.

The only "real" artists, per se, are those that haven't acquire mainstream success.
