That was the mid-90s and by 2000 both Aaliyah and Monica were exceeding her in popularity. The point I'm making is she was lost steam after NSN and her peers gained steam. It wasn't a diss to her two multi-plantinum albums but she declined heavily afterwards and wasn't able to change or adapt to the changing music climate.

Also the 2000s happened to her. She can't really make smash-worthy contemporary R&B. She couldn't really hang with Monica, Aaliyah, Mary, DC or TLC in the late 90s-early 2000s then Ashanti, Beyonce, Ciara, J'lo, etc. existed. She doesn't really have a legit audience either. She cant really make good Urban AC material either so she's moreso just lost in the pack.

I think Full Moon was enough proof that she could transition to the early 2000s and reinvent herself. Sadly, people cared more about her public image/personal problems than her music and she never really regained confidence in her music or in herself.

Well, when you're aiming your music at adults and you lie about a marraige just to save your good girl image of course people's morals are going to come into play.

She was entirely too worried about her image and not about her material.

Full Moon was okay for that time period but I think she would've fell behind either way.

Full moon was her best album. For me, it's the only album I've heard and I am able to say "I like every song". Don't know what you guys are talking about. Everyone knows that it's because she killed someone. If that person didn't die, who knows where she would be. She has the most beautiful voice RnB has ever heard.

Let's not act as if Afrodisiac wasn't the second best r'n'b album of the 2000s and Brandy, one of the greatest voices in contemporary mainstream music.

And to those who brought up Monica, I must remind you that worldwide the only songs we know from her are "The Boys Is Mine" and "Angel of Mine"... Aaliyah is tied with Brandy but ithe former is more well-regarded, partly thanks to the mystique of her short-lived life.
