If Gaga waits too long, radio will move on from her completely. Beyoncé, for example, took a fairly long break between IASF and 4, and look what happened.

I'd think that if Gaga had to reference herself for success, she would have to go all the way back to The Fame, rather than TFM.

That would be a huge step backwards though, and a lot of fans wouldn't be here for it, so it depends on what the label wants, cause I doubt Interscope will allow her to have as much creative control again.

Pop audiences generally don't buy albums though. They normally just buy the singles that they can get for 1.29 on iTunes.

Pop radio didn't support Run The World or Best Thing I Never Had... Or Countdown.

That also comes from choosing the right singles, which... If she had released LoT or EoT, we might be speaking differently about all this.

They did not support it because it's not pop.

Though, 4 selling 2.5 million WW with one moderate hit was primarily cuz of the spillover goodwill from the IASF era.
The same thing happened when Mariah's E=MC2 dropped. It sold based off of goodwill from the previous era, but there's no guarantee that the fact that she has Urban roots means that all her future releases will automatically go Platinum w/out Pop support.

She's a crossover artist, like Mariah and Usher. They do need Pop hits to break even, every now and then.

No they must move forward, no regression.

I believe their next albums can only get bigger. Beyonce next album is going to be uptempos. I want her to go rock/pop. They don't need to go back to their old eras because their older, life happened their sound will change. A good artist remains true to themselves, why would they change just to get a #1?

of course they can have success again. its all about how they market themselves and most importantly the MUSIC. beyonce is in dire need of a POP hit.

I hope they both do. 2008-2010 were glorious years.
