Gotye had SNL promo and he benefited well from it. Other than that, I don't know.

Foster The People's album was also out during the holiday season, and benefited from being discounted.

Gotye's was issued physically after, during the first quarter. Which is a dry period for album sales in general. Same thing with fun. Besides that, if not for Adele, and the death of Whitney Houston, their album would have also debuted at number one.

Mumford & Sons have multiple alternative hits & multiple awards shows have boosted their sales, of course they have done way better & Gotye should be doing way better too, but let's give him some time. I think that the album will have great legs, and a few more hits singles ( + STIUTK logevity will be INSANE). Universal wont give up on him that easy

And didn't "Torches" peak during holiday season?
