Usher has described his new album as a "rebirth". The singer believes he found a new sense of creativity when making his latest record, Looking 4 Myself.
The Climax star spoke candidly about the making of his record and admitted that his last few albums may have been lacking innovation.
Speaking to Reuters, Usher said: "It was damn near a rebirth. I felt open and creative because I didn't have anything in my mind.
"At some point, after making music for a long time, you have to find very new creative and innovative ways to do what you love."
The singer went on to confess that he's been "restricted" in the past because he felt the need to musically fit in.
"I've felt restricted in a lot over the last several years and maybe it's because I was holding myself back," he said.
"Maybe I felt like I needed to conform to some specific standard. I got to the point where I said, 'I gotta go with what I feel and hopefully people will follow me'."
Usher's seventh studio album, Looking 4 Myself, is set for release on 12 June. Will we love it as much as he does?
