“We are grateful that the Lady Gaga concert in Jakarta was canceled, but why were the singer’s video clips of her concerts in other countries still aired by national television stations?” Usman Fathan, chairman of the MUI chapter Bangka-Belitung, asked on Thursday.

Usman said that the government should censor national television, and force stations to stop airing Lady Gaga videos.

“This depends on the government, which should decide and has the authority to censor the television stations, as MUI has no power,” he said. Usmand added that television programs have badly influenced the morality of youth by broadcasting violence, ****ography and sadism.

“Many crimes and moral violations have resulted from profane shows,” he said. “It is the right moment for the government to take strict action by applying tight censorship.”

Usman said that while religious figures labored to change people’s mindset, the TV programs had the opposite effect.

“We, the Ulema, are relentlessly preaching in the mosques, but the result is disappointing because the youths prefer television programs that show violence and ****,” he said. “The most important thing to do now is to forbid television to freely air immoral and violence scenes.”

Buddy, you're a bit extreme in your views concerning Gaga. I can only assume it has to do with your love for Manson, but Gaga would never say, "Eat a dick, I'm performing and you guys can deal." She has a lot more tact than that. Yes, she said if it would continue, she'd perform alone, but finally she conceded. It was an astute and mature decision.

she did not let them push her around. she had every intention of performing, but without a police-issued permit, she could not have performed. simple as that. gaga is not jakarta. jakarta is not gaga. she can only do so much.

They are going way too far now, if they are gonna ban GaGa's music videos then they should ban almost every single MV, who would decide what airs and what not? a mess. And what would be next? banning the internet, cos nowadays most people watch MV on a pc/laptop.

These people fear what she is doing to the youth, they fear how she is opening up their minds from years of religious lies and showing them the truth of acceptance and love.
