If anyone wants to know her debut only spent 2 weeks above 100k which just goes to show that huge weekly sales aren't always important but selling 20k weekly for months can matter more
I don't care too much about the genre. Strong melodies + strong songwriting will do me just fine. 'Mine' has both and I love it My only issue is its production. Should be more stripped back
That wouldn't be far fetched at all, Taylor makes Taylor music! Her own genre!
Taylor Genre = Affair of Country/Rock/Alternative/Jazz/Blues.
I can deal then. And many others too I guess.

Thank you for this.

I was going to say BTR, but now that I've thought about it, it sounds more punk/rock than anything, so... none.
If I'm reaching, BOU.
You will hate me for this:
"Enchanted", "The Story of Us" & "Haunted" are pure Pop. And BOU is a POP, a BLAND & GENERIC one.

Over-Production is the main issue of SN (besides wacky ass tracklisting). Make it more laid back, it's no longer a Pop album. None can drag her as a sell out.
No that's a full a year later. I just deleted all the sales in between because I didn't want 180 weeks worth of sales taking up a page. The next week was post Christmas and she did like 90k that week
The 1st 7 weeks are from one year and than the next holiday period is when the sales went back to that range again
A full year later
Longevity...well the re-release helped

i'm sorry, but BOU isn't generic!
its got great dubstep verses with a folksy hook! yeah its the common "male rap / female hook" song, but its really different from the usual such collabos!
I think we digressed a bit from your original post, where you said she should stay far away from pop..
I was going to label those songs as pure pop but figured they weren't.
Totally forgot about TSOU, another reason why its forgettable, tbh.
Far. FAR away. But I'm cool with her cheating with other genres tho (a.k.a genres that I like ).
And how you think they were not? It has the structure of a Pop song.
Good to know we are on the same deck about TSOU.

Britney did the dubstep with HIAM. BOU is just another song where Dr. Luke wanted to push his dubstep obsession to the market. Sonically it doesn't even sound like a proper song. It's like they tailored a small part of Speak Now production with Dubstep/Pop of Dr. Luke. Rehearsed song, with a sugary sweet lyrics. What makes it different? It has the same message of "Airplanes" & "Firework". Even "Airplanes" ***** on BOU.
Compared to this, BOU sounds like a piece of ****.

"All Falls Down"
Kanye West feat. Syleena Johnson
[Refrain: Syleena Johnson]
Oh when it all, it all falls down
I'm telling you all, it all falls down
Oh when it all, it all falls down
I'm telling you all, it all falls down
[Intro: Kanye West]
Yeah, this the real one, baby
Uh, Chi-Town stand up
Southside, Southside
We gon' set this party off right
Westside, Westside
We gon' set this party off right
[Verse 1]
Man I promise, she's so self-conscious
She has no idea what she's doin' in college
That major that she majored in don't make no money
But she won't drop out, her parents will look at her funny
Now, tell me that ain't insecurr
The concept of school seems so secure
Sophomore, three yurrs, ain't picked a carurr
She like, **** it, I'll just stay down here and do hair
Cause that's enough money to buy her a few pairs of new Airs
Cause her baby-daddy don't really care
She's so precious with the peer pressure
Couldn't afford a car so she named her daughter Alexis
She had hair so long that it looked like weave
Then she cut it all off, now she look like Eve
And she be dealin' with some issues that you can't believe
Single black female addicted to retail, and well
[Refrain]
[Verse 2] Man I promise, I'm so self-conscious
That's why you always see me with at least one of my watches
Rollies and Pasha's done drove me crazy
I can't even pronounce nothing, pass that ver-say-see
Then I spent four hundred bucks on this
Just to be like, ***** you ain't up on this
And I can't even go to the grocery store
Without some Ones thats clean and a shirt with a team
It seems we living the American dream
But the people highest up got the lowest self-esteem
The prettiest people do the ugliest things
For the road to riches and diamond rings
We shine because they hate us, floss cause they degrade us
We trying to buy back our 40 acres
And for that paper, look how low we a stoop
Even if you in a Benz, you still a ***** in a coupe
[Hook]
[Verse 3]
I say **** the police, that's how I treat 'em
We buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom
We'll buy a lot of clothes when we don't really need em
Things we buy to cover up what's inside
Cause they make us hate ourself and love they wealth
That's why shorty's hollerin', where the ballers at
Drug dealer buy Jordans, crackhead buy crack
And a white man get paid off of all of that
But I ain't even gonna act holier than thou
Cause **** it, I went to Jacob with twenty-five thou
Before I had a house and I'd do it again
Cause I want to be on 106 and Park pushin' a Benz
I want to act ballerific like it's all terrific
I got a couple past due bills, I won't get specific
I got a problem with spendin' before I get it
We all self-conscious, I'm just the first to admit it

:
My original reply did suggest them to be pop songs.
They obviously have heavy pop influences, but there are hints of other genres being mixed into the bag, hence my cautiousness in labeling them as pure pop.

Let us just label it as the TAYLOR genre.
We will hold this Pop talk until album #4 hype gone. Agree?
i guess y're right! how much did 21 open with? i dont think it was really high??
but then again, i think taylor is gonna pull huge numbers in the first week! her popularity hasn't decreased since SN was releaed, she might have gathered a few haters along the way but she did gain a lot of fans!
i cant wait to see what she opens with!! x100
Adele did about 225,000 - 240,000 maximum on her first week I think :s

And that pic of her. Omg.
PS: Any opinion on BOU?
We will.
The problem I have with BOU is that, the whole song feels so FORMULAIC. They could have spiced things up a bit by changing up the second/third chorus. or even placing a typical bridge you would find in a Taylor song some WHERE in the song.
