Gender fluid father identifies as a ‘straight lesbian'

A young father has opened up about his gender fluidity, in a bid to raise more awareness regarding the subject.
Jas Sutherland always knew he felt like both a male and a female, but said that until recently, he never though he could be open about it.
However, now, he says he can transition between his two personas regularly and is determined to generate a better public understanding about what it is to be gender fluid.
Jas – a 28-year-old father-of-one – said of his identity: “I believe that I am a male-reared gender fluid with enough female personality to make me feel both the sexes.”
He also made reference to an Eddie Izzard quote, calling himself a “straight lesbian”.
“It was a quote from Eddie Izzard,” he told the Mail Online.
“Even though he calls himself a transvestite, I would still say he is more gender fluid.
“Maybe because the word was not invented when he started out.”
He added: “People tend to confuse gender orientation with sexual orientation, so I like to clarify that regardless if I am a man or a woman, I still fancy the same sex.”
He made the decision to come out four months ago after consulting a life coach who he says helped him come to terms with his identity, as did seeing more gender fluid stars – such as Ruby Rose – in the spotlight.
“I have had theses feelings for many years but just suppressed it,” he says.
“Knowing I didn’t want to change sex or be a cross dresser it was hard to find myself with that.
“It was not until the term came out that I felt comfortable coming out myself. Stars like Ruby Rose have certainly made life easier for the rest of us.”
Jas – who plans to marry his fiancée next year – also hopes to raise awareness of gender fluidity in order to make information more readily available for gender fluid individuals in the future.
The IT worker – who says his seven-year-old son is also accepting of his father’s gender identity – also offered some advice to those living in a similar situation.
“Be honest with yourselves,” he said.
“If you want to do it then just do it. Don’t let anyone get you down about it and never second guess yourself just because someone else has an issue with it.
“I have dealt with a few idiots in the past few months and I never let it get on top of me.”
