Kinda random, but I came across this while reading up on Madonna's "True Blue" album.

According to Lucy O'Brien, author of Madonna: Like an Icon, the album artwork (True Blue) was on-par with Andy Warhol's concept of pop art. She felt that the image was a mixture of innocence, idealism, while incorporating 50s-style Technicolor and hand tinted color, characteristic of Warhol's silkscreen printed design, prevalent in the 60s. Jeri Heiden, the album's cover designer commented, "She was already highly aware of the value of her image and was in control of it. After I took the photo, it appeared as if she was floating—her clothing was not visible.

As we all know, ARTPOP is inspired from Andy Warhol. Not to mention Gaga has previously shown her love for Warhol (ala The Fame Ball)

Musically True Blue was a different direction for Madonna. Her previous efforts had her singing in a high pitched voice. With this album, Madonna toned it down for a more bubblegum-pop voice.

We also know that Gaga is going with a different direction with this new album (ARTPOP is being called being inspired by 2013'), similar to True Blue.

True Blue was an amazing album and era, if Gaga can do it then kudos to her. But it will be hard.

I think that if ARTPOP will be like any of Madonna's albums/eras, it'll be Bedtime Stories. Coming off a controversial serious album with more lighthearted commercial music and showing a softer image.

Oh, I hope so! The True Blue era spawned 2 #1's, a #3 single, and a #4 single and all sold really well and it's Madonna's highest selling studio album. So a True Blue-esque era would be nice for Gaga and her career.

However, I expect ARTPOP to be better in terms of musical quality and vocals. Gaga has always impressed me more than Madonna in that aspect.

'True Blue' was also noted for Madonna's vocals being better. Gaga's vocals have been great lately (especially at the end of Born This Way)

Being "Gaga's True Blue" does not in any way insinuate musical similarity, it merely compares the success of True Blue and the fact that it was different for its time to what we want for ARTPOP...

Perhaps...

It should be noted that True Blue is Madonna's only studio album to be certified Diamond in the US. (Her other diamond belonging to her Immaculate Collection)

She has been compared to Madonna since the beginning of her career. It's not like she can shake off the comparisons. She just needs to be careful to not have any songs that sound anything like a Madonna record.

And hopefully she won't. But somehow, some way, I feel that there will be a song that gets blasted because it contains an inverted chord that was used in a Madonna song.
