Jive Records think they slick...it all makes sense now
You know....I just started to think about why Britney bothered to even release a 1st quarter album, but with Jive wrapping up, it all makes sense now. Jive rushed Britney to release this 1st Quarter album not to save just their fiscal year, but to milk Britney one last time before they went under and Barry Weiss leaves the label.
It all makes sense now. If Britney waited to release this album for the Fall or Winter, it would have been under RCA and not JIVE. They had to milk their cash cow one last time before the split occurred. It always baffled me why they would bother releasing a 1st Quarter album if they weren't going to promote this project heavily both domestically and worldwide, now we know why. I really wish we didn't get Femme Fatale till the summer like a June or July release or better yet the fall, a time period where sales do better and easier to sell albums without having to promote it as much.
Femme Fatale isn't doing horrible, but it's not doing exceptionally great. For an artist who doesn't promote no where near as much as she use to, she has no business releasing an album in the 1st Quarter. I don't think the sales would have been a huge difference with a different date of release, but I think it would have done better than what it has done. The fact that Britney hasn't left the country yet to promote this alum is crazy. She won't touch foreign soil till the European leg of her Tour.

I completely agree with this, and it is rather sickening.
It's too bad with this situation because the best times for Britney to release is the 4th quarter.

That could also be why Chris Brown released in the 1st quarter as well, although I don't know if they expected him to be a cash cow too, considering it was his first album after Graffiti did terribly & they had
no idea how it would perform. They must be very happy with the results. They probably wanted to milk Britney for pop audiences, Chris Brown for urban ones.

I dont really think even if it was released later that its sales would have been bigger.
Britney has been around for a long time, and has always sold a lot, so I dont know why everyone expected this to sell so much.

He's still one of their more successful artists on the roster that would bring them a little money. Why not him? Justin has still been recording features with other artists which brings a little dough and Usher just released a record last year so they got what they want out of him.

Now even you cannot deny the effects of a 1st Quarter release to a 3rd or even a 4th Quarter one? Especially for someone who doesn't like to promote anymore it seems like.

Poor Ciara wanted outed of that label so bad, it was quite sad. She went to the public begging for a release. I really don't know whatever happend to Jive, they use to be so hip and cutting edge with their label in promotions and business, but soon have fallen to the back of the pack.
Quite frankly, Interscope and Columbia are kicking butt right now. Interscope's marketing regime from just Gaga's release was nothing short of brilliant.

Jive has always only been here for Britney. She's their only fully promoted artist. Even Usher makes deals outside of JLG to get promotion. Chris Brown gets basically none and does all of his own ****... and Ciara... Ch.

Interesting theory. When was the last time Britney
had an album release in the first quarter?

The release of Femme Fatale was so rushed. She released HIAM and she didn't even promote it because she was still recording the album at that time and the video was filmed too late.

The promo monster that was known as the ...Baby One More Time era. That's why I can't hate on Gaga when it comes to Promo because Britney was the exact way from 98-02....non-stop promotion with no breaks hardly in between.

See that is the thing, JIVE is there for Britney..but Britney is not there for JIVE. Sure, JIVE could put a little more effort in promotion that she herself didn't have to do, but that can only do so much. I'm sure they would love to have her out there working the pavement on every show and every talk show, but they can't force her. A 4th Quarter release would only give her sales throughout the fourth quarter, what would happen once January rolled around? February? Exactly what is happening now...
It's not fair for JIVE to get all the blame.
And of course they didn't want to waste money on Ciara, she has given them no reason to

I see your point and I completely agree, well said! It is actually unfair for Britney to be doing this "bad" (considering her other numbers) with such an amazing album!

They've helped Justin as well, but the fact that Justin stays working with music collaborations has satisfied them. When Britney is done with a record...she's done. There aren't any new music projects unless it's a HITS COLLECTION in the works.

It's plain as daylights this era was rushed for release. I mean Britney was still working on multiple tracks for the album after HIAM was released. We didn't even get a album title or release date till less than a month before the release. Britney should definitely be blamed for not hitting the promotion circuit enough, but where is Jive's Marketing team? Where are the billboards, double decker buses with promotion of the cd on it, where are the Walmart/Target exclusive deals, etc.? Those things help tremendously.
It stands that this album shouldn't have been released in the lowest producing sales part of the year if promotion wasn't going to be done extensively.

You're always trying it. And this doesn't even make a bit of sense. But, I digress.
@Peep. Yes, two televised events and a rushed/purposeless MTV "special" = enough promo to sustain this album over months. Or maybe the major Nicki Minaj "performance"? Please, don't do it.
Anyway, this seems logical. And sad if all said did play some part in the release.

I agree with you that it was rushed, but being released 4th or 1st Quarter...if she herself isn't going to be there to promote it, it will only stay afloat for so long.
