Can Kelly Clarkson make a return to the mainstream?
As most of you know Kelly hasn't been a mainstream artist since 2009 probably. She has found a niche is Hot AC that works really well for her. She has recently switched record labels and has been hyping up new her album a lot, which she traditionally doesn't do. She has stated that is sounds like a modern version of 90's Mariah and Whitney. Do you think she can make somewhat of a return to the mainstream with a new style of music and new record label, or will she just stay as an AC artist forever? Spill your thoughts. Are you excited for her new album?
Yeah, I meant the song, but her album still did better than a lot of pop girls.
That song went top 10 on Billboard so I don't see why with the right song she couldn't get another top 5, at least.
She can, technically, cause her reputation is intact. She's in a group of people who can always get airplay with a catchy song. But should she? I don't want her to target pop, cause that usually means safe, generic music (HBS). I'm all for that soul album she's making. And if it crosses over, good. Rihanna's LOTB is doing well on pop, so you never know
I think she would have to put a lot more thought and effort into her singles. Her last album had no good singles. "Heartbeat Song" was at best good for HAC radio.

What about Mr. Know It All & Stronger?
I think Piece by Piece rebounding is proof that she could get another hit album.
By mainstream I mean like pop radio willing to play her. She always does all these interviews for them but they never play her. She did an interview this year where the DJ said he wanted to play the song but couldn't or something to that effect.
She has been confined to Hot AC radio since the Stronger Era
I don't know. Maybe. Does she want that though? She had her chance to be a big pop star after Breakaway and she rejected it and was kinda forced back to poppy pop with All I Ever Wanted.
As long as sales remain at their current ratio for the charts, she should be able to etch out a quick top 10. Maybe some song will take off with younger people. It's hard to say. So many songs that I never would have thought anybody could like have become huge hits in the last couple of years that it is near impossible to say for sure

Me too. She mentioned in a recent interview that there would be soul-country song and she described the album a few times as #soulpop so it probably won't be soul only.
