Ne-Yo on Beyoncé's Album: 'They're Still Trying to Figure Out What They Want That to Be'



Ne-Yo may be one of the busiest musicians in 2013. From supporting his late 2012 release "R.E.D.," his David Guetta/Akon single "Play Hard," signing new acts as an A&R rep at Motown, guesting on Ciara's new "Body Party" remix and contributing material to new albums from superstar acts like Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Celine Dion, he's got his hands full.

He gave Billboard an update Tuesday afternoon during an interview in New York to promote his latest project, a new single called "It's All Good" for Unilever's Fruttare ice cream bars.

"I'm still putting stuff together for Beyoncé's album," he said. "They're still trying to figure out what they want that to be, which I'm not mad at. Beyoncé's the kind of artist where you're not gonna see it till it's right. And her fans -- they love her so they'll be patient."

Beyoncé has been hard at work on her fifth album ever since secret songwriting sessions began last summer in the Hamptons, where writers and producers like Ryan Tedder, The-Dream, Greg Kurstin, Sia and others stayed for over a week to write and collaborate on potential tracks. Though no official single has yet to be released, snippets of songs like "Grown Woman" and "Standing On The Sun" have premiered in ads for Pepsi and H&M, respectively, while another Sia track "Rise Up" recently appeared on the soundtrack for animated movie "Epic." Ne-Yo and Beyoncé are best known for making magic with 2007's Hot 100 No. 1 "Irreplaceable."

I hope she left him and Sean Garrett out of the project. They are always talking. He says he's somewhere trying to make a song for her yet he acts like he has been in the studio with her and knows if she has or doesn't have a vision.
And mess at him saying "they" like Sony/Columbia has any part in the project when they have been more in the dark than us, throwing adds every week hoping she'll finally come with an album.

When is The Dream and Sia talking when you need it. At least we do know they worked together.

I'm very glad she is taking her time.

4 was a near masterpiece. She should (and we want her to) only be improving at this point and if she thinks she needs to take extra time to do it, that's fine by me. Let's not forget that they were going to release Speak My Mind as a followup to Dangerously in Love. Thankfully it wasn't and we got the brilliant B'Day instead.

Also, I get the feeling that Beyonce thrives in this type of creative environment. When she needs it most, Sasha Fierce comes out and makes it brilliant.

Lol. What does social media have to do with anything? Gaga is using social media and knows her fans are thirsty, is that why she would rush an album when she is not ready just to please them? Beyoncé is not our friend, she is a singer we turn to for amazing music, amazing vocals and performances. If she is not ready, she isn't ready.

Your theory has no merit because if she was forced into studio, Sony/Columbia would not have been putting out advert for her albums and songs for the last 4 months hoping she will finally inform them on how long she is when it comes to the process. Sia, Hit Boy and Timbo have made it clear enough that the label is just as clueless as they are regarding this project.
