What happened to Rihanna?
I was just watching her interviews with FUSE and she seem so sure of herself as an artist. She sounded so mature and knowledgeable. How do you go from deep songs, meaningful lyrics, clever metaphors, great beats, cohesiveness and amazing interludes.... to Mindless Pop Dance Songs, all over the place albums, Tired Caribbean dance song forumlas, and generic ballads? Isn't that like a downgraded to your artistry? And it seems to be continuing going in that direction with her new album as from what her newest single "We Found Love" is giving us. Besides her vocal, nothing about the song screams rihanna. The beat sounds like a watered down version of a david guetta song and the lyrics aren't the best either. For someone who's on their 6th album you would think they would be making music with some identity, innovative-ness( what ever that means in today's music) and substance. Rather than trying to just create "Hits". I feel like Rihanna is recording music just to record music without giving it any real thought on what she's trying to say with her music. I don't mind the upbeat songs but at least give it some originality and show artistic growth. The only thing that seems consistently be changing for good or bad is her style.
I feel like I'm losing the rihanna i knew and grown to love.

I don't think Dance Music is mindless or what not! All these hater hating on Pop music, but everyone always resorts to pop music for a hit! And Rihanna doesnt have to resort to it, she came up with Pop music and will die within it.

I really don't think it's fair to be making conclusions like this when we haven't even heard the sixth album. Loud may not have been her deepest, most well-planned effort, but who's to say the next one will be the same? Give it some time.

I understand you, I feel the same too. I know that she's never been 100% deeply involved in the creative process but in the last period she sounds really chart-obsessed. No shade, I'm just expressing my thoughts.

I agree. Loud was mostly about sex besides Man Down. Cheers is the most Rihanna-feel song.

Some people need to understand that artists don't always have something deep and meaningful to say in their music. She's a 23 year old artist who has yet to take a break in her music career. She has no kids, she's not in love and she's not going through some terrible ordeal in her life. Some Navy members love to reminisce about her 'artistry' in the Rated R era but you can't ignore that the whole album was created and inspired during the worst ordeal of her life. Of course she's going to draw on her personal experiences and thus make more 'meaningful' music. For the time being she's just a young adult living the American Dream and is it so unbelievable to think that her life is just full of fun and happy moments which is exactly what her music reflects at this stage in her life???

A textbook reaction to cope with past events. ..... Or it was in her contract.

To be fair she's always had the pop gig...Rated R I have a feeling will be a one time occurrence (even though it was epic). It sucks that she doesn't experiment as much especially with this new album. I am so NOT here for euro-dance Rihanna. That style is so basic and overdone it ain't even funny.
