Beyonce is a superstar, so she's going to get attention regardless of what she does, but one thing I've noticed is that although she has a tremendous amount of fans, there are a significant amount of haters. I have always been puzzled as to why there are some people who just talk about her with so much venom, but don't do the same for music artists who actually engage in and glorify bad behavior. Beyonce doesn't sing about doing drugs, cheating, fighting, killing, shooting, robbing, etc., like some of the other people out there, but she catches flack as if she does the most horrible things. Also, she hasn't done any of those things that people know about.
I have my theories as to why she has haters even though she hasn't done anything to warrant them:
1.) Jealousy. Even though a lot of people won't admit it, a lot of the hate comes from jealousy over her looks and life. Beyonce seems to have lived a charmed life. She grew up with two parents, was upper-middle class and never seemed to have struggled for anything. She was born with talent and with her family's support has ascended to the heights of being a global superstar with millions of dollars and tons of awards. Some people who didn't have it are envious because of it. Also, she is held as the ideal when it comes to looks in the black community. A lot of people who don't fit that ideal hold it against her.
2) Juxtaposition between her music/performances and her public persona. Beyonce can be very sexy in her music and performances, yet when she does interviews and appearances, she is is more covered up. She speaks slang in her music and at times has done "rachet" things, but when we see her outside of that she is poised and a vision of pure class. I think the contrast is something that throws a lot of people off who want people to "keep it real" and then they accuse her of being robotic. Also, I think people see Beyonce as an upper middle class girl who then married street guy Jay-Z and it confuses people. Since her life isn't an open book, it created a lot of mystery. What people seem not to get is the tie that binds a lot of us is race. At the end of the day we are all black and whether we grew up in the hood or not, we probably all know people who do, we speak the same slang and we can relate to each other.
I think all of those things come together to make Beyonce who is loved by most and hated on by some. If I were her, I wouldn't change a thing!
