There are few sure bets in awards races, but Julianne Moore’s Oscar nomination for “Still Alice” is the closest thing to a certainty this year.
Some are already declaring her the winner, but it’s too early for that. Still, it seems like the perfect Oscar recipe: A terrific actress, with four noms and no wins, playing a woman with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Plus, she has the awards savvy of distributor Sony Pictures Classics, which bought the film when it debuted in Toronto.
Today's NBR news further cemented Birdman's Keaton and Still Alice's Julianne Moore as the frontrunners in the lead acting Oscar races (both also took home prizes at last night's Gotham Awards), although the male category strikes me as much more fluid than the female one...

It's so sad to think about how much nominations/wins depend on the campaigns/money. Prisoners was totally snubbed last year, both Jake and Hugh gave stellar performances.

Oh God she was so great in that. No wonder she got all the major awards.
I read this yesterday and became elated. Her performance in "Far From Heaven" was a revelation and far better than Nicole Kidman in "The Hours" & Renee in "Chicago." Unfortunately, her star power was not as big as those two then - but I think she has a great chance this year. Her nearest competitor seems to be Amy Adams.

True although all performances were superb. Julianne deserved multiple Oscars years ago though.
