The spotlight and the hype in the press was WAY too intense, there was bound to be a huge backlash. Couple that with her artistic muse seemingly adrift during the time when she needed to cement herself as a dependable hitmaker and, well...

BTW was very polarizing, awful single choices, (Judas is amazing but should never have been a single), too much pandering and isolating demographics, pretentiousness and feeding into the hype of the ARTPOP era, squandering her comeback by releasing her worst lead single (Perfect Illusion) and a very bland album (Joanne). I used to be a fan pre BTW and remained a very casual fan throughout ARTPOP, but its just amazing to see how awfully mismanaged she has been, and pretty sad.

Yeah, she should've stuck to her The Fame sound and image until 2011. She moved on way too quickly.

All the pop stars who've had longevity in their career changed very slowly and still always stayed to their roots. Gaga went from one thing to another to another to another wayyyy too quickly.

She needed to create at least 3 albums that stayed to The FameGa's roots in order to build a solid fan base. Her and her team got way too distracted by the immense hype and didn't focus on the future in terms of where she'd stand.

It's really not though. It's plummeting down the charts WW like there's no tomorrow only a month after release, she used to be an excellent album seller but her decline is really pretty dam shocking.
