My boyfriends friends, who are all white by the way, call each-other Ni**a all the time and I hate it, it drives me insane. I don't care if they don't mean it offensively it is a derogatory term and I simply do not want to be around it.
They were saying it at valley fair and some black women heard...I was so embarrassed. I've told them all off so many times....he needs new friends.
I think its ignorant and unfortunate either way, and for the record, it's NI**A thats used in common speech. Yes, there is a very big difference between Ni**A and Ni**ER.
Like most words, it's only as offensive as the intention behind it. It used to be inherently offensive but it's been trivialized by people using it in everyday conversations.
No to both.
& if you're a black person using it, don't get mad when another race uses it.
Its hypocritical & that word shouldn't be glorified knowing its history.
I don't think it should be used in a deragatory meaning within the African American community. In education, yes. (mos def song is considered education to me.) Teachers of other ethnicitys I think should be allowed to use it when talking about the book that uses it (forgot the name) but other than that, it should be avoided and not used.
I don't use that word a lot whether it be gga or gger. I have some white friends who say it but I don't really mind. When someone uses it as an insult though... :
Since blacks wanna get so asshurt about OTHER races using it, We should stop as well. Although I don't see why after 200 years and Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X and all the other things civil rights activists have done over the years, We still get offended and wanna file lawsuits against everyone and anyone over a word. It doesn't help that we always cry victim when something doesn't happen for us.
I'm probably in the very small minority about this and will most likely get dragged but whatever.
