Earlier this month, R. Kelly's 14-year-old child Jaya came out as a transgender boy and changed his name to Jay. The singer had been silent on the news until this morning when he was asked about it during a live radio interview. He didn't exactly come across as supportive.

"You don't really wanna open it up by saying my daughter is becoming my son," he said. "Don't even give the blogs that kind of credit. You know what I'm saying? Real talk."

He actually said "real talk."

Kelly implied that the news of his son was a rumor that wasn't to be believed, despite the fact that Jay came out personally, in his own words, via his Ask.fm account.

Although I don't agree with his phrasing it's the right decision for him to not publicly discuss or confirm it. Jay is still a young teenager who may eventually feel different in the future. There's little point in R.Kelly publicly announcing the situation as it would only add pressure to his child's further decisions about it.

However, it is discouraging of him not to seem supportive of his own child. Though I'm not surprised by his reaction considering his previous understanding of young teens judgement.
