Grammy-licious: The It Girls of 2000-2001 Rate
GRAMMY-LICIOUS:
The It Girls of 2000-2001
Out With the Old School, In With the New Cool
Welcome!
If we're talking both acclaim and commercial success, these were the IT girls from 2000 to 2001! By 2002 The 44th Annual Grammy Awards shaped up to be one heck of a battle as the three added a female-dominated and youthful spin to the ceremonies. They were apart of one of its most diverse nominee pools in recent memory actually.
These debut artists received a combined total of 17 nominations! Nelly with four, Keys with six, and at seven, India.Arie, with nods coming in each of Grammy's big-gun categories (song and record of the year, album of the year and new artist). The girls of today WISH!
We are here to rate these three albums, a total of 41 songs and see who comes up on top.

Acoustic Soul is the debut album by American soul/R&B singer India.Arie, released in 2001. As one of the most promising neo-soul artists yet to emerge in the past few years, India.Arie casts her lot with the best artists of her label's storied history, playing deeply introspective songs laced with glistening acoustic guitar, churchy organ, and smooth, supple beats. Acoustic Soul was nominated for seven Grammy Awards in 2002, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist. Unfortunately India was sent home packing with zero awards, losing in five of seven categories to Alicia Keys. But she returned the following year to win two and is still viewed as a respectable artists 'til this day.
Nelly Furtado's Whoa, Nelly! is one of those albums that's designed to be a surprising, precocious debut. From that first play, it's evident that Furtado is indeed an audacious songwriter, not at all hesitant to bare her emotions, tackle winding melodies, and bend boundaries to the point that much of the record sounds like folk-pop tinged. Furtado is a restless vocalist, skitting and scatting with abandon, spitting out rapid repetitions, bending notes, and frequently indulging in melismas. As a result of critical acclaim, this album was nominated for four Grammy Awards in 2002, including Best Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance which she took home the latter. She already spawned hits but wait until 6 years later when the real WW commercial success PUNCHED in.
Songs in A Minor, made a significant impact upon its release in the summer of 2001, catapulting the young singer-songwriter to the front of the neo-soul pack. Critics and audiences were captivated by a 19-year-old singer whose taste and influences ran back further than her years, encompassing everything from Prince to smooth '70s soul, even a little Billie Holiday. Keys was all that, and she had style to spare - elegant, sexy style accentuated by how she never oversang (at the time), giving the music a richer feel. It was rich enough to compensate for some thinness in the writing. This album earned Keys several awards and accolades, and took home a whopping five Grammy Awards out of her six nominations. This was only the beginning of her icon status.

This will actually be my first time listening to India's album in full so I'm excited.
As of now there's a single of hers that is already a contender for my 11.

India's "Ready For Love" is one of the most beautifullest songs, EVAH. It actually makes me cry
One of the other two girls is gonna get dragged. Her weave will be gone within the bottom 10.

Neither have I. Y'all are really selling it, though... I better not be disappointed.
